Title: replacement aerial
Post by: mikelrob on September 4, 2009, 17:42
i've been reading alot of the old posts about aerial problems cos something's happened to mine   s:x :x s:x
but i can't see mention of anywhere to get a replacement motor and gear wheel assembly. i haven't phone mr T yet cos i know they'll stick the arm in and i've been searchin the net but all i can find is stubby aerials which i don't fancy. does anyone know where to get one or maybe still has theirs from a conversion and fancies selling it?

thanks in advance

You do get them coming up on a regular basis either on here or ebay so just keep your eyes peeled.
Maybe you could PM dj2k21 and see if his is still available.  l viewtopic.php?f=68&t=25999 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=25999) l

hi, sorry for the late reply.

yes my problems are that the metal worm drive has worn away the plastic on the first gear wheel and now cannot get enough purchase to drive the gear wheel when there is any resistance. so really i'm only after a gear wheel but i can't see that being available.

yea koe_182, that's the problem i had. it lasts for about 15 secs everytime the car is switched on or off. i haven't yet fixed mine but am on the way to doin so... think it's the gears inside the motor assembly rather than the teeth on the telescopic aerial. i heard some people just cleaned out their motor assembly and regreased it, unfortunately i had left mine too long for this. to get at the motor assemsbly you need to remove the cover inside the wheel arch enough to get a spanner in to dismount it.

good luck

Its likely you need a replacement mast as the last few inches of the flexible teethed part breaks off although you can fix it,see Liz's excellent little guide here:

same thing happened to mine and i thought it was the gear. turned out to be the mast all you need to do is the how to topic and your aerial will be back in action.

Stubby aerial was not very good so I bought the Toyota one for the fixed mast. OK, always up, but thin and black - looks good on a sable IMO.

I know this was a long time ago now Roger but I don't suppose you know the part number for this do you? Did you have the stubby one from the kit the guy over on spyderchat used to sell and if so does the mast screw straight into this mount/base?
