Title: Too good to be true...?
Post by: JiMR2 on September 6, 2009, 10:52
Hi all,

I've seen the following DVD/CD/GPS/Bluetooth etc units on ebay;

 m http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-2-Din-Ipod-GPS- ... 286.c0.m14 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-2-Din-Ipod-GPS-Dual-Zone-In-Dash-Car-DVD-Player-TV_W0QQitemZ280392414899QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Video_Navigation?hash=item4148b0b6b3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) m

 m http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-In-Dash-DVD-DIV ... 286.c0.m14 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-In-Dash-DVD-DIVX-CD-Player-Car-Audio-System-GPS-Ready_W0QQitemZ220445842677QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP?hash=item3353989cf5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) m

And am very interested in getting one... I know its not a known make in either case but not being a massive ICE guy i'm not majorly concerned by this. I would like to swap the standard, ugly, unit out of the car and replace but wondered if these are too good to be true...

Any opinions, or has any one fitted/used these before?

cheers
Jim

It certainly looks good and I would love to put something like this in mine, my only worry is that the better it looks the more likely it is that some scrote will come along and slash the hood to get at it.  s:( :( s:(

Hi,

I "won" something very similar sometime ago on Ebay....single din but big fascia....really cheap for the spec....produced in China...(boy do they need somone to help on their English Chinese translations as instruction book left a wee bit to be desired!!)

Assuming this one is from the same manufacturer ( I suspect someone in the UK has picked up the distributorship with a UK distributor's margin!) the general graphics were not as great as they look on the bumph.

Oh,if you want tv,  where do you stick a TV anntenna in the 2 and check out the pics, do they give you a tv antenna in the package?

I eventually  fitted it to my youngest's Fiesta, looks ok...DVD is magic, Bluetooth acceptable, some of the controls are iffy !

I think alot of this stuff is designed for the US market or certainly bias in that direction, it's getting better but in general terms, still a little too much plastic chrome for my taste!

It ain't bad but it ain't Alpine!! 6.5/10

These cheap ones from eBay are not the best quality, and break pretty easily. Known a couple of people who got one and they have not been impressed, they either sold them for a big loss, or broke them within 6 months.

It may be worth the risk for the price, they may have improved, but if it breaks in 6 months, or if it's not very good, then probably not? Choices, choices...

Have to agree,

These ebay units are like those cheapo USB, Mp3 players from China that were (and probably still are) all over market stalls at pretty low prices a while back. Most only lasted a few months, so werent worth the mon£y!

There are some Double Din ones that have a removable screen, but most don't - If you are getting one, make sure you check this first. The single din ones hide the screen, but look like when the screen flips up it would catch on the aircon controls (just from looking at pics and then looking at the dash).

I'm seriously tempted by one of these given the price, have bought cheapo chinese electronics before (non-car) and they haven't been to bad - It's normally the operating system/user interface that lets them down.

I like the idea of a screen with bluetooth and windows CE. I think I could hook it up to my blue tooth odbii port and install the car pal or digmoto software.

This is what I have in my car. It does the job brilliantly, still need to tune the tv though, ariel is in the compartment behind the seats get a reasonable signal. Its was quite an interesting experience driving along and suddenly having snooker commentary echo around me.

Only minor issue I have is that sometimes the touch screen decies it doesnt want to know BUT it does sort itself not sure what causes it but it just has a blip here and there for 60 seconds then its all back to normal.
