Title: Under Dash Sub Box
Post by: nathanMR2 on October 20, 2009, 16:16
Gauging interest for a Group Buy of an under underdash sub box. Saves you losing your rear bins, which in my case are much needed. These were being knocked out from the states via spyderchat. There was a group buy for us guys some time ago, but Markiii has said he is willing to make a UK version possibly in November. Cost for the spyderchat version was into the £100's so it wasn't cheap. Markiii said his willing to make these for around £110 with a donation to the club included. Could you please confirm if you are interested to see if its worth him doing this....

always wanted one of these. how easy are they to fit? do you have to butcher anything down there or are there pre existing brackets?

if this works it will have a fitting kit for UK cars so that other than spending 30 mins with your head in teh footwell it should be straightforwrd

which footwell does it use?
what sized sub can fit?
is it visible at all?
does it effect anything (ie anything lost by doing this?)

pics would be lovely

  s:D :D s:D

They fit under the drivers side foot well, up in the dash and partly behind the stereo i believe, its more room and a better sound for the driver   s:) :) s:)   Im not sure on the sub size im guessing a 6.5" or 8" but im sure markiii could confirm. Nothing should be lost other than your hearing  after time  s:roll:  s:roll:

You cant see it unless your having a lie down in the footwell   s:wink:  s:wink:

one more thing
I wear a size 13 shoe am I going to hit/knock it?
  s:lol:  s:lol:

Just a thought, but you really should put your hard earned cash towards a second shoe before you consider any more mods.  s:lol:  s:lol:

The original and I have no reason to suspect this will be any different

takes a 6" JL Audio driver

I have size 11 feet and occasionally used to brush teh bottom of teh box, it was never a major issue and something I quickly learned to avoid

Similar, but more boxy and it keeps the speaker central.

yep, last time we sourced drivers they were circa £70

which way back when meant we paid about £320 which was ridiculous, but oh so very worth it

I have an 04 model and am a little concerned about a post on the spyderchat thread that states "I'll remind everyone again that these will not fit on '04 and '05 models without major work. Not sure about '03s."

Does the same apply to the ones being built by Markiii ?

If mark is going the replicate the us originals then i see no reason why they shouldn't fit ok - I had one in my 03 smt and have successfully transferred it to my 53 plate, assuming this is the same as the 04 models..

Sorry for a blatant cross-post/plug, but I've just put a couple of 6.5" shallow-mount kicker subs I got shipped over from the US up on the classifieds board. I'd intended to mount one or both under the dash, but as I've had to go for a sensible car with back seats and a boot and stuff, these are now surplus to requirements. They could make an good companion to one of these boxes.

they would indeed, I'mon teh home stretch with teh boxes at present so suggest anyone intending to get one snaps these up
