This type of unit has been the subject of previous threads. I think you'll find the unit is made in China. Until recently you could "win" then in an Auction from anywhere from £60 to £120 + depending on the spec.

I suspect that they've appointed a UK distributor and with his margin the unit costs have gone up.

They are generally ok IMHO, the graphics ain't quite as good as the pictures and the Manual is in almost pigeon English, it ain't Sony but you are not paying Sony money.

I bought one similar for my wife's 2, didn't like it in situ and fitted to my youngest's Fiesta....It looks well and he tells me people make positive comments about it...

I think what Russ is saying is that if you want a single din, you can buy a kit to change it.

In a previous thread I made good comments about the one I installed in my mr2. Since then the touch screen function completely gave up the ghost and it is now useless as it constantly selecting options by itself. 9 months it lasted me, I'm now looking at a pioneer P3100dvd. Hopefully it will be more reliable and with a proper/decent warranty

Thanks for the info on the ebay item, guess that is best avoided.

Picked car up today, not missing bluetooth or MP3 CD yet!!!

Reason for double DIN is that I think that they took better (it was designed that way after all) and I think that the display on the single DIN is too small when you have MP3s with track name etc.

In my Celica I previosly had a single DIN Toyota headunit with single DIN in dash CD multiplayer, if I could get hold of them (idealy with MP3) I would be happy.

I have seen Sony single DIN units for £140 but spotted this double Clarion unit and might go for it.

thoughts????

is this the lead I will need?

I have a pioneer double DIN from my old car that has bluetooth handsfree, USB and play anything, less than a year old!.  I am thinking of not fitting it in my MR2 though and going back to a single DIN.

The main reason is the 2 is a softtop and the double DINs dont have removable face plates.  Dont' want my roof slashed for the HU.

Oh avoid the ebay one, cheap and nasty china rubbish!
