Title: Bee Sting Ariel
Post by: Anonymous on January 26, 2010, 12:35
My ariel on my mr-s has died.

So it kind of looks like a remote control car.
I've heard people taking about bee sting ariels? are they better? Where do you get them from!

Cheers Big Ears

It's not as simple as just changing the aerial, you'll need to swap out quite a few bits to be able to use a smaller aerial. IIRC Lord Takuban over on SC used to sell these kits a few years ago (certainly that's where I got mine from), but I wouldn't do it again as the reception was terrible. However bad the OEM looks, it still worked very very well.

Personally I'd either purchase a new OEM aerial or get one from a breakers, but I wouldn't get a smaller one.

You can buy a manual aerial from MrT.

QuoteThe main mast is Y86309-17100, the plastic thing is Y86392-17110, and black whippy aerial is Y86309-35100. As of 3+ years ago, the cost was £29, £8.50 and £25 resp

You don't need the black whippy aerial if you can find something else you prefer. Just make sure its got the same thread.

There is a guide on here by me which shows how to fix the aerial when the middle plastic bit snaps - you could always follow this as the aerial will be shorter when you have done it anyway.
