Title: Phone Cradles
Post by: Thudd on June 16, 2010, 09:54
Anyone found a good solution to this?
I don't want to drill my dash, so have had my iphone on a windscreen mount. Sadly when this failed under cornering G, I nearly lost the phone out of the window.
Vent mounts are rubbish as the vents droop and I end up with my phone pointing at my feet and unusable.
I'm going back to a screen mount. Has anyone found a better solution?
Cupholder sockets are no good.

Still got that hole where the A/C button goes..?  s:P :P s:P

If I can remember. I'll attempt to aquire the button at the weekend, you'll have to work out how to mount it!!

How does that mount? Will I need to dismantle my interior?

What I did was stick one of Brodit's female plates to my dash. The male one is attached to my mount meaning I can swap my PDA between cars without buying 2 mounts.

If you want to move your cradle from car to car, you need to buy a Pro-Clip backing plate for each car (to that car's spec), then some of the slidy on / slidy off things, that will attach the cradle without the need for screws. In fact, if you don't want the cradle as a permanent feature you could do that anyway.

Trying to find out the proper name of the slidy connectors but came across http://www.car-mounts.co.uk/proclipselect.asp offerring free clip with every cradle. Worth googling around for prices though.

I've used Morpeth Mobiles before and the sell the slidy thing....Big Move Clip Mini 213006 Mounting Equipment.

<edit> Beat me to it - damn phone calls!

I've gone back to a more sturdy windscreen mount, until that fails and my iPhone flies out the window.
Subsequent insurance claim will fund something better   s:lol:  s:lol:

First of all, Hi everyone, first post.

Second, phone holder, I always use Dashmount brackets for vehicles, similar to the proclip but made of metal, quite expensive for what they are but always fit well and durable, you use screws already used in the trim to fit them. Dashmount also have a leather console that fits onto the lower left hand side of the centre console. For the phone I use Brodit holders, available for most phones, you can get passive and active holders, active have a built in car charger.
