Title: Removing standard stereo AAARRGH!!
Post by: johnylee on August 8, 2010, 12:58
I just tried to remove the standard sony stereo and everything was and would be fine, except 2 screws keeping the stereo in just refuse to move!

The screw threads have been worn down so there is no chance of moving them, i managed to look at the back of the sony stereo and noticed there is 4 phone sockets (well 6 actually but only 4 to do with output)

They are labelled Left and Right but also F and R which i am presuming means Front and Rear. Does this mean i can use 2 amps from these outputs?

My plan was to use 1 2channel amp for a sub and a 4channel amp for 4 speakers and use a splitter from the phono output on the stereo but if there are 2 outputs then i can use 1 for each amp can't i?

Thanks

yes, you can use two amps from those phono outputs. There's also a pair of unused amplified rear speaker outputs from the unit too!

i only saw 6 phono sockets and i think 1 of them was for an audio input, i'l go check again.

Thanks

Have just checked and there is 2 outputs and 1 BUS audio input, would i be able to put an mp3 player into that?

Thanks

sorry, I meant the amplified output for rears is part of the main wiring loom coming out of the stereo. You'd need to splice into the relevant wires to use it. The car side of the loom no wires/pins in the connector to pick it up.

I think the bus connector you're talking about is for the sony multichanger. There's no AUX channel you can use for the generic connection of other devices.

Ok thanks for that mate, i'l just be using the phono outputs to 2 amps, i have a 1000watt ampt to run the door speakers and 2 speakers behind the seats and a 400watt amp to power the sub that will also be behind the seats in the shelf i'm making.

Will the sub be ok on the shelf if it isn't in a box? I'v been trying to work out a way to box it but there isn't room because of the plastic parcel shelf that moves with the hood.
