Title: My new spoiler
Post by: Burning rubber on August 26, 2011, 19:49
He is a picture of my new boot spoiler.

I think it was an absolute bargain. Got it off a guy in Taiwan on ebay - £29 painted and delivered.
Colour match is perfect

cheers

You should send him your pic... it is better advertising than the crappy pic he has on ebay

And as Curlytoppz said he should use your pic it`s much clearer.

yes that's the guy i bought it off
the paint quality is excellent
i really don't know how they can do this for the price
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: lemans on August 27, 2011, 10:20
I really like the understated look of that.

One question. Does it stick on to the edge of the boot lid or the piece of body work (if that makes sense?).

I may grab myself one of these.

Just thought of another question.  No import taxes/duties?

Great find

Post by: AmeR on August 27, 2011, 10:25
Looks like the top of the bumper to me!!

It's created quite a problem for me... TRD style or understated lip spoiler!! The Toyota ducktail is one of my fav ones but since I do enjoy "tweaking" bits on the car, I don't fancy taking all the bumper off each time to remove the lights for stuff!!
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: Chris H on August 27, 2011, 10:43
fantastic find....very subtle indeed.....you may have saved me around £150...  s:) :) s:)
was about to order from spoilerdepot for the trd style, that would have cost me
nearer to £200 with shipping and customs........AmeR go for it,you know you like

Love it! If I end up keeping my car, I may well be tempted by one of these. I couldn't even buy the paint for that price!
Well done, you may just have pioneered a very popular mod!

glad to help guys
the spoiler fits on the bumper lemans
i haven't been charged any import tax, it was just delivered to my house
it fits with 2 strips of tape that are already on the spoiler
needs to be warm when fitted,  is dead easy to fit and sticks very well

Yes, that would have been good. I have an unpainted one, similar profile to this, slightly longer and to shape and paint yourself, so could go in different locations. Was going to put on mine, but can't be bothered. I'd take £19 for it if it helps anyone.

Very nice lil spoiler - am thinking it could look nice with the TTE bannana like Jason has...

Why would the entire bumper need to come off just to get to the lights though???? From the pics the spoiler doesnt seem to be fouling on them... ????   s:roll:  s:roll:
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: AmeR on August 31, 2011, 19:55
The Toyota Ducktail (Jason's other spoiler!  s:lol:  s:lol:  ) curls around the rear lights not the eBay lip spoiler.
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: JiMR2 on August 31, 2011, 20:00
So I would still be able to get the rear lights out without removing the entire bumper then mate?
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: AmeR on August 31, 2011, 20:07
If you get one of these eBay lips? Yeah it sits in between judging from the pics. The OP should be able to confirm that.

I wouldn't hang around if you are wanting one... They seem to be going like hot cakes!!

Guys, I know this is a popular item, its obvious from the posts. You are all entitled to your opinion and thats fine. To me though, its a bit naff! Whats the word for something below understated? It reminds we of a willy in very cold water!

all to looks the standard 2 in its shape is very clean and understated and bigger lip would shout hay look at me so this not doing that as much as its smaller would be better + the price. however in my case with the kit being more look at me than standard it would indeed be silly so i would need a bigger spoiler like the trd or c-one. however i do agree its small but in otherways everyone has different tastes and budgets.

I would say for the price it's worth a try because if you don't like it,it's no big loss. This is a secondary spoiler for me so smaller is better.Without the pics in this thread I wouldnt have bought it from the Ebay ad but the pics speak for themselves, looks a neat fit,a good paint job and a good price. What do you expect for £29,TRD?

Just ordered one myself after spending the morning washing and dodo juicing the car.  Already have the TTE banana spoiler fitted & this should make a nice subtle addition - hopefully!  Anyway, at £19.95 excluding postage (that's what I'll tell my other half), looks like an absolute bargain from the photo's.  Let's hope he's still got some left - getting it in Astral Black paint code 202.  Will post a photo when received & fitted.

Hi Can someone please help me here?

I have ordered and paid for one of these spoilers, but the guy keeps insisting that it will not fit my 2000 "W" reg mr2, he says it only fits 2003 onwards, I did ask on here if the spoiler will fit and had 1 reply sying that it would, thanks for that.  But now I don't know what to do, I'm not aware that the rear bumper top moulding changed at "facelift" perhaps someone else could confirm this please?  I have asked that the spoiler is just posted anyway, but this is the latest reply I had:

"Dear,

Thanks for your coming.
Due to you ask item is for 2002 MR3 that year is different from the AD.

Could you please provide us the measurement of rear car trunk lip?
so that we can make sure the spoiler can fit your car.

Please measure the trunk curve with the instructions below:

 m http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/H ... eboot1.JPG (http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/Howtomeasuretheboot1.JPG) m

Sorry for your inconvenience.
We are looking forward your reply.

If you have further question please feel free to contact us .

By the way he now says mine is a 2002 but it is a 2000 so definitley a pre facelift.

Thanks in advance.

There's no difference in bumpers hence why the Toyota ducktail fits all years (in the same spot). If you've paid, tell him to post it as it's up to you if you stick it to a car it "doesn't fit on" or the side of your house.

........and thanks again to Burning rubber for pointing us to it   s:D :D s:D

I put the new spoiler in the engine bay (ticking over in the garage) while everything warmed up and it made it nice & supple, peeled off the backing, centralised it and placed it on the middle part (a light touch when it sticks can be easily pulled off at this point), pushed up each outer edge to fit and pressed down firmly.........I did use some TFR to de-grease before fitting  s:wink:  s:wink:

Mine turned up today - paint finish seems good. So this definitely needs warming first before fitting? It seems so bendy already!

Yes......warm it up, it has to form into the slight recess in the middle and it goes really easy when floppy   s:wink:  s:wink:

I just rested mine on the top cross-member and closed the engine lid while things warmed up (don't put it on the heat shield   s:roll:  s:roll:    s:lol:  s:lol:  ), I also fitted it with the engine lid up as it made it easier to get the edge flush.

Looking good babe  s:) :) s:)
Mine has been shipped after a very funny email trail!!

Dear e.auto.bay2008,

Hello Friend

The model was the same from 1999 to 2006, so this is actually a listing for a 1999-2006 model MR2 Roadster, MR2 Spyder or MR-S as they are all the same car.
In 2003 they changed the rear wheels, the seats, the front and rear lights, the front and rear bumpers.
So for you making spoilers there is no issue with front bonnet, rear boot, arches, doors etc.

Russell

Dear e.auto.bay2008,

Lets try this again
Your advert is for a Toyota MR2 03/05
It should say Toyota MR2 99/06
BECAUSE There was ONLY one MR2 between 99 and 06
My car is a 2000, this has the same boot as a 2001, a 2002, a 2003, a 2004, a 2005 AND a 2006
So if someone wants a spoiler for a MR2 Roadster (UK) MR2 Spyder (USA or MR-S (Japan) then its the same car.

Here is a lnk the MR2 Roadster from 2000
 m http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mr2+20 ... 80&bih=629 (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mr2+2000&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=629) m

Here is link to MR2 from 2005
 m http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mr2+20 ... 80&bih=629 (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mr2+2000&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=629#um=1&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=mr2+2005&pbx=1&oq=mr2+2005&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=35255l36643l0l37285l2l2l0l0l0l0l606l606l5-1l1l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=ae30eea5e5abeb8c&biw=1280&bih=629) m

Please notice the car is the same car, there was only one car made between 1999 and 2006
so YES This will fit my car and all other MR2 made from 1999 to 2006

Thank you

Russell

Les's tip on warming the thing gently first is an excellent one.   s8) 8) s8)   Went for a little spin and turbo helped warm things up nicely, so after going round the block, turned everything off and left spoiler on rear brace for just a couple of mins while I wiped and degreased the contact area. Lined up and went on a treat.

and this is a pic of the spoiler I bought months ago to do a very similar job, as there wasn't a ready to fit solution around then. I originally intended it to fit on the next crease back on the rear bumper. I'll find somewhere else to fit it at some point, or my other car perhaps.

Looks really good.  Just checked my shipping details & mine was delivered to FedEx Coventry earlier this morning, so hopefully should arrive on Monday.  Did you follow Les's example and leave the engine lid open to fit the spoiler tight against the edge of the bumper lip?  Will follow all advice about warming it up etc, so hopefully will look as good as all the others fitted so far.  Will post a photo to show it in situ with the TTE banana spoiler.  Getting excited now!!!

Yes, fitted it with the lid open. I would think you'd need to keep an eye on the spoiler when in the engine bay, as it does go very floppy when warmed up.

I quite like the one I have really, but didn't have a choice, anyway. I ordered from the same chap on ebay and this is what turned up. Squarer profile of the ends suits me , but then all have different tastes.

Well mine turned up today - ordered on 1st Sept & received on 12th, only 6 working days.  All I can say is excellent product & excellent delivery - boxed up and secure.  Paintwork is excellent and an exact colour match.  Mine has the rounded end that most members have received which would have been my personal preference anyway.
Thanks for the advice from Les and Nige to warm the spoiler before fitting.  Did exacty what Nige did - took the car for a run around the block & then left the spoiler resting across the strut brace with the engine running to get things nice & floppy.  Made sure the paintwork was clean, peeled off the backing paper and then applied with care to make sure it was fitted centrally & flush with the edge of the bumper panel.
I think that it fits well with the TTE banana spoiler and makes a subtle addition.
I'd also like to add my thanks to 'burningrubber' for the original post - a nice cheap upgrade which works well.

Can you guys let me know how long the spoilers you ordered / received actually are, as I got an email from the seller this morning (Sept 20th!) asking:

"Thanks for your coming.
Due to there are other customers ask different size for this car type.
Could you please provide us the measurement of rear car trunk lip?

Please measure the trunk curve with the instructions below:
 m http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/H ... heboot.JPG (http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/Howtomeasuretheboot.JPG) m
 m http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/H ... eboot1.JPG (http://e.auto.bay2008.googlepages.com/Howtomeasuretheboot1.JPG) m "

I measured mine and it was virtually bang on 100cm, so 99.0 or 99.5 will be spot on, then...?

I thought all this had been sorted out a few weeks back...?   s:roll:  s:roll:

Question for all those who have bought one of these spoilers, This morning i recieved an invoice from Fed Ex for £14.02 for import taxes, has anyone else recieved one of these please ? If this is normal then they start to work out not so cheap, its nearly costing as much as the price of the spoiler! Not sure what to do whether to pay or contact seller, any advise please.  s:( :( s:(

I've bought four of these of different types, over a year and never been charged. I thought the value was below the threshold for import duty, but maybe I'm wrong, or the rules have changed perhaps?
Title: Re: My new spoiler
Post by: Wabbitkilla on March 9, 2012, 13:47
The threshold was £18 including delivery charges, and wasn't always strictly applied.
However it would seem that HRC is seeing this as a useful revenue stream, and thus so do the delivery companies, therefore they're reigidly applying the rules and taking you to task at every opportunity (plus their admin fee).
Title: Re: My new spoiler

Quote from: "Lurch"Question for all those who have bought one of these spoilers, This morning i recieved an invoice from Fed Ex for £14.02 for import taxes, has anyone else recieved one of these please ? If this is normal then they start to work out not so cheap, its nearly costing as much as the price of the spoiler! Not sure what to do whether to pay or contact seller, any advise please.  s:( :( s:(

Due to the seller having the following on all of his auctions I don't think there's much point contacting them, no seller will refund you for your acountry's import charges; you'll have to pay, it's just the luck of the draw I'm afraid.

Ive often bought stuff from the far east off eBay in the past and never been charged import duty on them but then I too heard that customs and the couriers are now seeing this as a money spinner, despite the couriers having to increase their warehouse facilities to hold the stuff in stock for longer.

I now await my bill  s:-( :-( s:-(

Just got my invoice from FedEx   s:x :x s:x  £13.95!!! So I think any future buyers had best be aware it probably won't be as good a deal as they thought they were getting. Still probably cheaper than buying one here though   s:lol:  s:lol:

For future reference If you are receiving a package from overseas (unless it's from another EU Country), please be aware that it may (probably will) incur customs charges. Any package assessed by HM Revenue and customs as being liable for customs charges will also incur a Royal Mail handling fee of £8 (FedEx £10   s:x :x s:x  ).

Any goods imported into the UK over the value of £18 are liable to import VAT. Gifts between private individuals over the value of £40 are also liable for VAT. Goods and gifts over these values may also be liable for customs duty. You no longer have to pay customs duty for goods up to the value of £135, however you will still be required to pay import VAT and excise duty where applicable.

Probably the exchange rate at time of billing that caused the difference in price. My Bro-in-law got a legal letter when he didn't pay his but it was for about £150 don't know if they'll bother chasing £14?

They just sell the debt to a collection agency, then it can get nasty. I was avcidentally caught out once and know only too well how these intimidating scum operate.

Better pay up unless you want threatening letters and visits from their 'agents'.

Yes..ParcelForce charge about £14..!

Thats the standard I get hit for when they arrive at Gatwick: thats in addition to the actual VAT...the £14 is their "admin" charge...!!?!?!  s:evil:  s:evil:

My sister (unluckily for her!  s:lol:  s:lol:  ) actually WORKS for Parcel Force: at Gatwick, too..!

We spent about an hour the other day arguing about the rip-off: she explained that the £14 is charged because they actually pay the customs charge for you before they send the letter.

That in itself is reasonable: what is REALLY taking the pi$$ is the fact you never actually have the option to pay the customs charge yourself, either up-front, or when it hits the UK....
So in effect, their "admin" charge could be whatever they choose to set it at, really...?   s:roll:  s:roll:

(They could even (maybe) put it up to £20 in 2013.....  s:? :? s:?    s:wink:  s:wink:  )

The "grab-as-much-money-out-of-the-honest-law-abiding-British citizen" gravy-train rolls on.......  s:roll:  s:roll:

I think we NEED a revolution.....?!  s:lol:  s:lol:

Fedex didn't charge me anything - they delivered to my neighbour because I was at work - This beggars the question "Are the bean counters changing the rules?"  s:flame: :flame: s:flame:

This is the first time i've been charged. But HMRC seem to be stopping everything now, and as said the courier pay the vat/import duty on your behalf and then charge us anything between £8-14 for the privilege.

The only other option is to pay the supplier extra and ask them to pay the duty on our behalf before it is sent.

I ordered an unpainted one last week, it arrived after 9 days. £26.73 including delivery. When Mr FedEx stopped outside today I grabbed some cash expecting to have to pay duty and he told me that nothing was due. Luck of the draw...

Tried to order one of these from the original thread, only to find sale ended but re-advertised again and again item was now removed! Obviously couldn't cope with all this sudden interest!
But found this one
 m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330895073275? ... 1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330895073275?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) m

I took the gamble and ordered one from the above link, in Taiwan   s:x :x s:x
Had to confirm the colour with the order, so ordered on the 26/8 arrived on the 5/9, £22.32 + £4.48 pnp.
I've seen some comments on here reference the additional import cost and although I got a call from FedEx I didn't receive any additional cost.
The paint finish is excellent   s:) :) s:)
Haven't had time to fit as yet. Hope this helps anyone else considering this!

Regards   s:D :D s:D

I still can't decide if I should buy one of these or not.  Knowing you get stung for £15 helps a little.  Did anyone regret getting one?

Stifler, at £40 they're still cheap and the quality and colour match is exceptional. This is the 3rd one I've bought from these guys and only the 1st invoice from fedex, you won't regret it and the look is very subtle and almost factory looking too.................!

I'm just a little worried it will look a little too 'stuck on' but going by the pictures it looks good.  As always I've massively overspent this month....but it's pay day on Friday....
