1. Those alloys are almost comical and will have bad impact on the quality of the ride
2. I'd keep away from any speed bumps/sharp inclines if I were you
3. I'd like to see a shot of the back because the indications are it will be hideous based on what we can see. And as for the spoiler itself...
Go on then, how much do they want for it?

For £18,000 that's the most attractive motor you've found!
Thing is Brad we all know how this thread will go. You ask for our opinions, then everyone says that it is an affront to God's creation and then you'll buy it anyway. Same as the last time we had this thread.

For God's sake, get a VX220 (only after you have driven one - it will probably not be to your taste), a Honda S2000, A BMW M Roadster... or if you want a practically depreciation proof car, a Porsche Boxster.
All of them hose this monstrosity from a great height and all of them can be had for £18,000 or less used.
If you're looking to attract a grotty looking 16 year old girl away from her Ned boyfriend, buy this MR2!

Didnt say I was going to buy it lol. I think it looks nice though. The bloke who is selling it bought it for 16k and tried to sell it for 21k 5 months ago but couldnt. He is now selling it for 18k, the site he is selling it on all know he bought it it for 16k so he's had no offers lol.
Yes plenty of speed bumps near me so might rule it out. I am interested in the VX220 but have yet to test drive one. It would be the new Turbo mind.

Exactly, it looks, well, NEDish. Perhaps its the shiny dark blue but it does look (young) boy racer with a backwards baseball cap.

Posted by beenandgoneagain on 14-04-2004 20:41:
I think the one you've got now is nicer tbh - the bodykit makes that one look a bit like a British low volume effort...
But if you like it and you want it go for it and ignore everyone's opinions as it isn't them who're going to be driving it!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by vila on 14-04-2004 20:41:
NEDish! Its an MR2 kitted with veilside aeroparts, its pretty much proper race car stuff! Not a saxo fitted with a badly designed fibreglass POS.
Ignore them brad, they all drive ugly ass euroboxes. Think it looks very nice although not overly keen on the alloys (would be nicer with some 16" lightweight jap wheels) But that all said, dont you allready have and MR2... why not just buy the kit from veilside.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by 1966 on 14-04-2004 20:45:
the spoiler, alloys and seats are hideous, but its not quite as grotescque as some of the bodykitted MR2s you've posted.
that bodykit makes its proportions look really wonky though, it looks likes its a few foot too short!
basically it looks like the sort of thing Laurence Llewellyn whatshisface would drive.
and £18k second-hand?? Surely you could buy an actual sportscar for that much, not just a pretend one.

I wouldn't say its race car stuff, more like show car stuff, ie, you wouldn't want to go more than 25mph cos of potholes or you can say bye bye bodykit, and you wouldn't be able to make sharp turns cos of the suspension/wheels.

No, it looks plastic!
It may be popular in Jap shows but knowing enthusiast owners, the car would not be generally considered nice.
However one point to consider is what do YOU like? if you like the car, then buy it. My car is modded and I get people looking, especially after the new suspension (lowered but handles like its on rails). I like it, I consider it to look good with the chrome/black exterior. And for the ones who dont like it, So what, I like the look!
w www.black-5.co.uk (http://www.black-5.co.uk) w (good friday is the latest pics, i have a few of the lowered stance at w www.whyyoulittle.fsnet.co.uk/mx5/agx (http://www.whyyoulittle.fsnet.co.uk/mx5/agx) w )
so the morale - If you like it, buy it. you may get the mick taken, but that is what you get when you own a superior car

The new shape Elise, old one is referred to as the S1.
Both infinitely superior to that Max Power job you've posted in every respect, but like the VX220, cars that can be difficult to live with.
The latest S2, the 111R, features a 190bhp engine from the Celica T-Sport and might well be even better than the VX220 Turbo. It certainly looks better.

Might be a bit out of my price range, what we talking 18-20k for one of those new 190BHP ones. I like the sound of that in an Elise. I should think it would give the VX220 a run for its money.

I like the front bumper (looks slightly Noble-esque) and don't have any huge objection to the wheels, although they'd look so much better if they weren't chromed, but other than that it's ugly.
Veilside do some nice kits, too. Not a fan of that one though.

Appart from that, it looks completely stock.

I was just gonna say it had shades of a Noble M12 in there but I see snoopstah already has. The rest of it though, hmmm not really impressed. I do like MR2 roadsters very much, I had a few drives of a mates one and it really is great fun, sticks like glue but the stock version is much better, no need to change what is already a good looking car imo.
Not keen on after market bodykits, I feel it puts a lot of people off a potential car purchase due to the stigma attached to them (ned). So the only people who end up buying ned like cars are neds, there probably only a few thousand cars in circulation in the ned world. They just keep swapping them for eachothers. You could next be in line for a Courtney 2.0 V6 conversion Nova - with dimma kit!!!!*

Well, it's not to my taste, but I think that MR2 is an improvement on your current one (sorry). Thing is, it'll probably be a pig to drive in this country. Fair enough on nice smooth roads, but in this pothole ridden backwater, no way jose.
I'll just add my voice to those saying that for £18k you could get a hell of a lot of other REALLY nice motors. Much much nicer than that one (which is ok, but you know, why not push the boat out?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by mr starface on 15-04-2004 14:24:
I prefer your current MR2 brad and indeed am thinking of getting one myself as you can pick them up for under 10k now - only thing putting me off is the lack of space when I go to do weekly shopping or go away for the weekend so may have to resort to a new shape celica.

there is actually a reasonable amount of space in the mr2, especially if you take the spare out of the storage compartment at the front. you'll easily get a weekends worth of luggage or a weekly shop in it because i've done it countless times.

The average weekly shop for a male MR2 driver is a jaffa orange and a pair of stockings so boot space shouldn't present a problem for most.

I think it looks very nice and the Veilside kit is always of the highest quality. Would probably cost you £5k if you were to import and fit/spray the kit yourself.
However, you would really have to go FI if you got that otherwise its just a show car.
BTW, this is the wrong forum to ask questions about a modified Japanese car. Ask for thoughts on a more appropriate forum and you will get a completely different attitude in replies.
At the end of the day, its up to you though

You're kidding - a new Elise 111R is £28,000+. You can get a used S2 (non-111R) for £18,000 which again, is infinitely superior to this abomination.
As shufty says, if you are going to change your car every 18 months, why don't you lease and save a pile of cash?
