Title: ACT Clutch
Post by: vinp182 on December 8, 2011, 13:25
Anyone know to a UK stockist for these or an equivelent?

I've searched on here for clutch upgrades and the ACT seems to be well recommended

I can get one from MWR but the import tax is silly money   s:( :( s:(

Cheers in advance

Vinny

TDI-PLC (http://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/transmission-technology-c-107_290_1368_1369_1376.html) stock Toda multiplate clutches, I suppose it's worth contacting them to see what's available?
Funkypower (http://www.funkypower.co.uk/index.php) are supposed to stock ACT clutches too

LUK Clutch through charlesworth motors might be an option still?
I got one a while ago, and they did say were getting harder to get now.
Cheers

TBH I wouldn't buy another Exedy Clutch, the last one fell apart, LUK seems to be the way to go and the kit from Charlesworth is a strong thing with a nice light feel. Multiplates are usually very noisy and brutal in their operation ... admittedly they are about the strongest clutches you can get in the size package.

The Toda has good reviews but seems to be a bit 'savage' for normal driving

I'll give charlesworth a buz about a LUK as soon as i'm ready for one

I've heard loads of bad thinds about the Exedy so i'm gonna stay away from those

Cheers for the help so far  guys   s:) :) s:)

There's an LUK on flea bay for £58 delivered. I paid £80ish for mine.

Cheers dude  s:) :) s:)

Is this an upgrade to a standard clutch though as its cheaper than a standard?

The Carlesworth LUK kit is better than the ones you will find on eBay as it includes parts of the Corolla Supercharged kit so it's a lot stronger than standard.
Even so it is still relatively cheap compared to Exedy and the likes.

If you decide I can fully recommend you ring up Charlesworth and talk to Steve about it.

I suspect that'll be an OEM replacement. Its pretty much trade price.

I got one a while ago, and they did say were getting harder to get now.

They had a phase of incorrect supply from LUK around the time that Rich was needing a clutch. To their credit, Charlesworth passed the 'messed about' discount they got from their supplier on to Rich and Steve diverted from his hour-long trip home to get it delivered  s8) 8) s8)

I believe the supply issue is more reliable now for the hybrid uprated kit, but if you do have to wait I'm sure they'll see you right. I've suggested to them that they might want to hold this as a stock item - ROC buy quite a few from them & I'll be needing one soon aswell  s:D :D s:D

So I need to ask for the 'hybrid uprated kit' ?

I'm in no rush to be honest.. My engine will be coming out for a few 'upgrades'   s:wink:  s:wink:   after my track day on sunday and I don't really need the car untill the new year so I don't mind waiting

They can supply the stock replacement but if you tell them you're a) ROC and b) turbo'd they'll know what to order in ...... they've supplied plenty of these to members in the past 12 months. I speak with John (office guru) regularly so I'll let him know there may be an order on the way for the New Year.

In any case it'd be handy for them to hold at least one in stock.

That's great Ste, thanks. I'll give them a ring tomorrow to find out cost and availability and re-post here  s:) :) s:)

Have you not tried woodsport in Durham? XO power tune in Newcastle? Or Thor racing in midlands? All specialise in mr2 so would be worth a go mate

Woodsport don't supply clutches, you'll find.  The LUK might be your best bet, but they aren't the same as an ACT if you want to give it masses of abuse. The ACT paddle clutches are very strong indeed, so if you are planning on drag style starts and really hitting it hard it might be better to research an ACT. I had an LUK on my last 2 ( haas turbo) and it was great for me and stock levels of driveability. I did use it on an airfield day as well and it was fine, but that'sas much abuse as it ever got. Andrew (AC) had a LUK on his Apexi turbo ( 270 ish bhp) and his was fine too, he didn't hang about whenever I drove with him!

Personally, I'd have the LUK, in fact I am about to embark on a new turbo project and I will be going for a LUK for that one.  s:) :) s:)

I am using the Helix sport clutch with a boosted car. Action is light and smooth, engagement is a little more immediate than the stock clutch, but perfectly ok on road. Worth dropping a new release bearing in there while you are at it.

My ACT clutch was cheaper to buy from Clutch City in the States than UK. Mind the exchange rates were different back then.

LUK Kit references can be found here, either as the componets or the three piece Kit, LUK are regards as one of the best suppliers.
