Folks
I was interested to read Liz's post about where she has put the RA. Sitting in the car the other day I was trying to fathom out where else it could go, that didn't involve unbolting several bits of dashbourd trim. I pulled out the stupid cup-holder tray and put the RA on it sideways. I already know that the speed reading on it is lower than the car speedo, so I don't think not being able to see the read-out at the moment is important. With a little bit more thought and maybe some velcro the tray will definitely be more useful this way. The cable from the sensor located at the centre of the screen goes into the back of the storage bin (although a bit tight), along the left-hand side and down the side of the stereo trim, coming out just above the cup holder.
The set-up might need a little fine tuning, but it's easy to disconnect and store out of sight away from the skallywags.
Roger,
If the RA is down that low, how will it get a signal from the GPS?
It has to have a clear view of the sky to know where you are and down that low you would not be able to see what sort of hazard you are coming up to, as the RA displays, FIXED, MOBILE, AVERAGE or BLACKSPOT.
Hi Liz
I installed the sensor at the bottom centre of the windscreen using the rubber sucker on it. I have now turned round the black box "flight recorder" so that I can see my actual speed (compared with the speedo reading, (which reads 4/5 mph more). I have also tilted it upwards a bit, in order to see the digital display better.
One minor thing I have noticed. Because my car is garaged the mph reading shows - - - when I turn on the ignition. Once I'm out in the open pressing Menu once starts the satellites working.
A Client of my enquired whether the reading continues when going round bends!! I assured him that the 4 or 5 satellites tracking the car would still work, but trying it out on an island is a bit difficult when looking at 2 readings at once! Near Bromsgrove is a fast (for us, but not most cars) motorway sweeping bend where the M42 joins the M5. I'm going to test the system there tomorrow.

The thing with the rubber sucker on is the Lasar detector, you are lucky that you are getting a signal with the RA down so low in the car, is your roof down all the time!?
Liz
As Sean will confirm I do drive with the hood down virtually all the time! However, even with the hood up I have no problem getting a signal. Only time will tell if this continues to be the case, especially when approaching a GATSO or other. I shall have to test it out on some installations I know about.
