Title: Alarm that works.
Post by: Anonymous on April 26, 2004, 21:10
Had the car in William. A. Lewis of Shrewsbury for warranty work today, which included set of new wheels, new disks and replacement bushes on the front suspension.
All these items where braught to my attention 3 weeks ago at the time of the 10,000 mile service, the only item I requested was the new bushes, they volenteered to replace the other items without any prompting from myself.
This morning when booking the car in I mensioned how inefective the alarm system was and what a stupid place to position the sounder.
When I collected the car tonight they had removed the sounder from the spare wheel compartment to below the black plastic boot cover free of charge.
When I arrived home the alarm was put to the test, I now have a very loud effective alarm system.
Many thanks to William. A. Lewis and Sean for recomending them in the first place.

Can it be a DIY jobbo?

I can imagine the laughter roaring around Rayleigh Toyota when I ask them if it could be done free of charge!!!

yeah simple to move only have to undo 4 bolts and if you just want to turn it around so that it's not projecting directly onto the plastic then you dont ahve to disconect it.

If you do need to discont it then it's only a 4 pin plug jobby so nothing major.

do either of these changes (turning around or moving) invalidate the cat1-ness of the alarm?

no not at all as long as you dont replace the siren for a lesser powered one you will have the cat 1 status

Y 4 wires ??, surely only Ov and Signal are required to transmit a alarm??? - are the other 2 sense feedback wires (1 in, 1 out) that disable the ignition system if the wires to the siren are cut ???

Any chance of a piccy of this? Sounds like a worthwhile mod. Also, did the dealer have to extend the wiring?

Cheers

Yep they are feedback wires for the CAT 1 as they will disable the ignition once cut. These output wires can also be spliced into to put a Blue LED in the headlamp which looks very trick when the alarms on, as the headlamp will blinck on and off the same as the interior led will but blue
