The DB9 is trully awesome. Lottery? I'd give my right nut for a day with one. !   s:lol:  s:lol:   Missed the programme unfortunately, but the press coverage i've seen has been spellbinding.  It's great to see Aston flourishing again.  Even though they turned me down after interview! ( I didn't mention the nut chopping thing incidentally)

The level of detail on that thing is awesome..that is how you create a modern interior! There is absolutely no way that I would pay more for a Vanquish..which I hear is also being updated so there is a smaller overlap in the range.

An absolutely stunning acheivement..and when the GT version comes out! wowza..I may just have to up my offer for one!

But would you have one over a Gallardo?????????? I can't believe some lucky lucky people actually get to make that decision! I don't think i'd sleep for weeks if I knew I had to make that call.. I go to bed now thinking about what colour calipers..TTE front/ H&S exhaust..etc

I taped it, I'll digitise it this week.

short version Jeremy took the DB9 to montecarlo.

Richard and James took the High speed train.

they raced to see who'd get there first.

I think I'd sella nut to pay for one  :-) :-) :-)

Yeah I'd like to see it..although ulmost undoutedly it will make an appearance on Clarkson's best of 2004 video!

What did he think of the 'flappy paddle gearchange' as he so oft calls them? As I know he hated the Vanquish's

Was behind a Vanquish in central London the other week. Turned the stereo off, put the windows down, and followed it around, just to listen to the thing. Amazing sound. Now that is sad!

he liked it but talked a lot of shit.

said it was better as rather thana manual it was a 6 speed auto.  then raved about the throttle bliping and double declutching.

not sure how he reckons an auto box can double declutch as a true auto doesn't have one?

Yep, he had me thinking "what the **** is he on about?".  Don't think he really had a clue what it was, except he liked it.

did you hear the sound of the thing?!   s:P :P s:P

Q. why is the vanquish 60k more when its now an inferior car? and it doesnt look half a nice inside as the DB9!

I think Astion have realised that and are making some improvements on the Vanquish pretty soon to distance it from the 9. Hopefully, the 'quish will be the car it should have been when they have finished and they can justify the price difference then. Mind you, BOTH cars sound utterly stunning. I heard a 'Quish go past me on the M'way not long back and my oh my...............I thought WW2 was back! Amazing stuff.

Saying that, you heard the new McMerc SLR? And the AMG SL500 come to think of it? Goose pimple moments from both and I thought I would NEVER be saying that about German cars..........

the SLR is on top gear next week! dont miss it.

Jeremy clarkson said, part of the reason he bought his SL55 AMG was because of the noise it makes!   s:twisted:  s:twisted:

I love the sound of cars like that... there's a vanquish living round here somewhere, which I often pass on my way too or from work ( "55 FLY" is the reg).  Sounds fantastic.  As did the Ferrari 360 Challenge I followed home the other day.

Got to love car with that sort of audible presence  s:) :) s:)

Yeah the challenge makes a spine tingling noise.  I seriously don't know how they got that through noise regs! Also love the sound of the SL55, although I have to say...the SLR sounds like a tractor! The supercharger noise is excessively loud on the SLR for me.  On the SL55 it never drowns out the V8 but on the SLR it seems to..maybe its just the sound bytes i've heard?

 m http://www.mercedes.co.uk/pc/index.html (http://www.mercedes.co.uk/pc/index.html) m

Then click Visit Microsite..

Then click explore..

And then click the floating red lines that say "supercharged V8" for sound clips.

Just listened again and it does sound like a tractor!   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:  Personally I prefer the now defunct V12 used in the Pagani

Yup. This months Top Gear magazine had a comparison between the Porsche Carerra and the SLR and they did they whole thing.....Lap times, braking distances, handling tests and so on. There is a picture of the SLR's brakes glowing there. Apparantly, according to the write up, the SLR is an astounding stopper, but on the tests, the ceramic caught fire and they had to extinguish them before they melted the tyres!!!!!

Apparantly, the air brake works wonders on the stopping distances of the Merc. According to the highway code, they said it recommends 180 feet (I think) to stop from 60 miles per hour. The SLR did it shorter than that from 120mph!!!!! Now THAT is stopping!!!

Overall though, Clarkson said he would take the SLR over the Porker, even though the Porker was the better car. He said the SLR is 95% of the fun of the Porker 95% of the time. The Porker was just better, but much more hardcore. Apparantly, the Stig said the Porker was the best thing he had EVER driven around their test track!!!! Blimey!  s:shock:  s:shock:

Yep, I would agree. I hate Mercs in all forms, but there is an SL55 about two roads away and you can certainly hear him start it in the morning! My GOD, what a noise! Noise regs? No chance. AMG must be paying of the government to get that one past...........stunning stuff. And I quite like the car too, athough a bit annodyne apparantly.........  s:shock:  s:shock:

Me too. I am not a big fan of german cars in general (don't like a lot do I?  s:roll:  s:roll:    s:wink:  s:wink:  ), but that Porker is pretty damn lovely, I have to say. The Merc just looks well out of proportion.

Still, if I had a choice, the DB9 is the way to go.........only 15 MPH slower than the Porker and I can live with the fact that it didn't go round the Top Gear test track quite as fast..........  s:roll:  s:roll:

did  they put the DB9 round the test track then? watched the show but didnt them put it round the track
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on May 10, 2004, 14:02
No I don't remember it going round............wonder why? Mind you, it was a left hand drive car Clarkson was driving and the DB9 is not officially on sale as yet, so maybe Aston wouldn't sanction it.......

just wait and see when they reveal the DB9 convertible...

Lets hope its as good as the tin top. Most convertibles flatter to decieve, which is sad........

Post by: Anonymous on May 11, 2004, 16:01
Yes, I know about the car you're all talking about.  Sure, it looks like a real fast, fun car.  But, I have to ask myself if it's really worth $20k more than a Spyder.  OK, I know it would be worth it if you were competitive and took it to the track to race.  But around town, and on road trips, the Spyder has more power than I normally use anyway.  And, the Spyder is a kick in the butt to drive.  So, why would I want to spend almost double for more power, and perhaps some extreme top end handling, that I'd never use?

i think id just rather buy a turbo for my 2 and keep the cash that ive saved from the elise

the 2 makes an excellent everyday car, whereas the lotus, well....   s:roll:  s:roll:
