Title: Legal help needed re: messed up TTE Dual
Post by: scottee on May 14, 2004, 12:03
Finally had a reply from Toyota FRF, only took them 3weeks!

Are there any legal-type bods here to tell me where I stand, this is what they said:

We refer to your comments regarding the additional costs involved with the manifold stud snapping on removal, and our conversation relating to this. As we stated at the time we did have difficulty in removing one og the studs. All care and effort was used to remove it. We used heat on the materials to persuade it together with lubrication stud removal liquid. Despite this all our efforts failed and the stud snapped. All other studs, although tight removed satisfactorily.

We informed you of our difficulty and that additional time would be required to drill out the broken stud. You agreed to this additional work as we kept you informed of the circumstances at the time.

It was unfortunate that this instance happened but we did take all precautions to prevent it happening. However this eventually was unavoidable.

They called me AFTER the snapped the stud, and I had no choice to accept it, because they would need to drill the studd to get the original manifold back on.

Who do I contact legally to get this sorted? is there some sort of car ombudsman or is it small claims court.

All they said about the messed up alignment is to bring it back in, but I really really dont want these idiots to get hold of my car again! god knows what they would do if they had it again.... can I demand they they pay another garage to sort it out?

alignment, I reckon until you have giben teh reasonable chance to fix it, especially as tehy have offered then you have no choice but to let them.

ref the manifold stud. The fact they called you after it snapped  is logical as until that point they wouldn't know the extra time/work weas needed.

Hating to say I told you so but if you had disputed it at the time you'dprobably have at least reached a compromise. Since you've already paid, your deemed as accepting it.

For all teh arseache and time you'll expend (and I don't think you'll get what you want even then) versus teh end result I'd personally just chalk it up to experience.

Mark's got a point... imagine this scenario:

"Sir, we're just about to undo the manfold nuts, but they feel a little tight, would you like us to try"?

But by the same token, they made the choice for you and damaged the car doing it.

They have PI cover to sort out these sorts of mistakes... perhaps they should use it.

Got to agree with markiii.
I was livid when MrT botched my TTE dual and the weak excuses given.  s:evil:  s:evil:
They basically said "that's the way it is".
So aligned it myself with brother-in-laws help in less than 45mins.

Just phoned them just now, i've been holding back calling them because I go nuts on the phone, but I did manage to keep my cool.

He recons there isnt much they can do about the alignment because 'thats the way they are'. Obviously we all know thye cant be perfect but mine are really a joke:

Is there any chance that you guys with TTE's already fitted can send me some high quality pics with the angles I have on my pics so I can show them how its going to be done.

Like mark said, I think i'll drop the manifold claim and chalk it down to experence, but im not leaving there until these pipes aligned

Whilst it's not 100%, it's a million times better than MrT's attempt

there is a two in liverpool johsons dealership with the tte twin fitted and its spot on. they fitted it so it might be worth getting you dealer to phone them for advice as they obviously havent got a clue!!!

those pictures look awfull if that the only way they can fitt them it might be worth asking for your labour charge back and going to another dealer to rectify it

try emailing tte with the pics and tell them they are getting the blame

p.s. good luck
