Sorry if this is a really daft question but I'm having some trouble with my battery very slowly draining once the ignition is off and I'm losing the will to live!
Once the car is locked and the Alarm & Immobilisor are armed, I know their is a small light in the middle of the dash that flashes, Could somebody confirm me that a second light down near where the wing mirror adjustment is should also flash when the car is locked, It is a red light and is quite bright. If that isn't flashing because of the alarm could somebody tell me what that light is?
Do a search for "Toyota TVSS alarm pdf" on the web. You should find a Pdf file there that details the complete system.
It should cover installation and fault finding.
Are you sure that you have a good battery? They can start to lose charge quite quickly when old and tired.
Also check things like ICE and interior light.
Failing that an ammeter in the posotive lead from the battery and start pulling fuses one by one. Then eliminate anyything on that circuit.
One of the LED's is the Alarm, and the other is the immobiliser (which is built into the ECU).
From experience they don't drain the battery too bad, I've come back to my car after a month and it's started up ok and the alarm hasn't had problems.
My battery is good, Its a heavy duty VARTA battery and I only purchased it last October, I tested the battery off the car and the voltage maintains as it should, Once fitted to the car it very slowly begins to lose voltage and eventually gets to the point where it is low enough to trigger the car alarm to go off. I havent had any trouble starting the car though. I use it every day and do around 50 miles so it gets a good run. I've checked all interior lights, Bonnet catches, doors, stereo, interior lights and cant see that any of them are causing this
The only thing I find very strange is last Thursday I had my air con re-gased and the very next afternoon this problem began, I dont know enough about the air-con system to do any checks, Maybe I will have to take it back to the garage who did the regas so they can check the air con isnt somehow draining the battery, I dont know. I'm really lost for answers.
I will look for the alarm PDF tonight and do a few checks on that to ensure it isn't the alarm itself thats draining the battery.

Thanks, That red LED near to the wing mirror mirror adjustment etc, Do you know if that is supposed to continuously flash or flash and then move onto constant?
