Hi all,
I have a a slight problem with my central locking system as very infrequently (only twice in the last month or two) it has just stopped locking/unlocking using the two fobs I have. Both the fobs work in general and the little red lights on them both flash if that is any indication they have enough battery.
Being a complete noob when it comes to cars I was just wondering what the first port of call would be in stopping this permanently? Obvious one would be to change the batteries on the fobs just in case, however I thought it unlikely that they would both generally work and then both stop working down to their batteries at the same time and at two separate distance occasions in time.
Is there any known common faults with the central locking that are easily diagnosed and fixed?
Or am I better off just taking it to an auto electrician?
Any advise appreciated, thanks!
Alex
I would certainly do the batteries. I found my spare (never ever used), lost its power only a few months after I had to change the main one.
Stupid question....you do point them at the car? Apart from that I can't help. Sorry.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I will try the batteries anyway, can't hurt to be sure.
Yeah I point them at the car, right next to it, at different points around it etc and still no joy. Although if I go out there now it will probably be working again, after a couple of hours since I tried.
Thanks Bryan I will check that out.
I had this problem and while it was at Toyota for another problem, they told me if the batteries in the fob run down the fob light may still come on, but there's not enough charge to fire the alarm/door locks. It's the cheapest thing to try anyways. :-) :-) :-)
