2000 Roadster.
HI. I'm trying to splice in a set of bumper mounted Hella fog lights into my headlight wiring, I'm not sure which wires are which on the cars headlight, I have three wires going into the unit , & the fog lights have a live & earth only, I'm sure the colour coding of the headlight wiring is original so if anyone can tell me which wire is which on the headlight it would be much appreciated.
The picture is from the fog lamp instruction sheet.I have indicated with RED arrows where I need to splice into.
Cheers.

I'm sure that you have to wire them via a switch so they can be operated independently from the headlights.
Failure to do this may be an MOT fail (someone will be along to confirm/dismiss).
That is also the way the diagram you have posted shows them to be wired.
In addition if you're using the connector also shown in the drawing you're committing wiring suicide as they are unreliable and provide a connection by cutting the original wire almost in two.
In addition to an addition if you've got to ask which wires you need, that shows a lack of ability to carry out testing and proving and in such a case I'd get an auto electrician in to do the job.
I'm not having a go at your skill level, I've just seen so many of these jobs lead to future disasters if not done correctly (speaking as an electrician)

I believe if he's wiring them according to the diagram, then yes ... there is a switch, but you must also know that you should not be able to switch on foglamps unless the low beam is on ... hence what the OP's is actually asking for has nothing to do with your statement. Assuming this is a pre-facelift car, you need to identify the wire feed supplying +12Ve to the low beam filament of the headlight buld and then just tap into that for the relay according to the diagram you got with the foglamps.
The Scotchlite IDS connectors are commonly used for these applications, they're serviceable but I would recommend you spreay them with some grease afterwards to prevent any corrosion to the wiring.
Ok the plug your on about forget as the diagram wants side lights. Either one of the two wires to the bulb will be fine and use the black white wire on the diagram. The black wire you want to earth to the body of the car and hey presto done. Also on a side note the best knowledge is experiance so always worth a try.

I reply
The op's original post gives the impression that he wants the foglights on all the time when the head/sidelight is operated.
Again.
This may lead to an MOT fail, otherwise why do car manufacturers wire VIA A SWITCH as shown in the op's diagram???
So it has every relavance to my original post.
Anyways, not the time of year to be 'splitting the atom'
Ho,Ho,Ho.
