Title: Tangerine days?
Post by: Anonymous on June 8, 2004, 16:16
Someone on here mentioned something abotu Tangerine Days (or something like that) where they got to drive loads of cars in one day for an extra £20 per drive or something after their missus had bought it for them. Who was that? I have tried searching, but it don't come up with a lot to be honest!

Also, what ARE these "Tangerine Days"? I have heard of Red Letter Days, but really want to know more about these cos it sounds a whole load better.........

Please someone let me know!!!!

Nice. Some places rent cars for the day too. Think it was 100 quid for an elise for the day.

If they had a Countach for £99 I would be making phone calls.

Indeed it was me!  Whilst it was a tangerine day..My GF actually bought it through Red Letter days..she bought me the Ferrari Experience, which is here (There are a few more driving days on there as well)

When you get there it's all Tangerine organised.  It's one of the best things I've ever done, and have the video's somwhere if you want to see what it's like.

The course I went round was really excellent, and while they say they limit you to specific gears in corners, if they see you can drive a bit, they let you do what you want.  Another good thing is the instructors are excellent, and if you say "look mate I don't want to know about lines etc, I just want to mash the throttle all the time" They'll oblige.  But if you say teach me the lines they will. I was amazed when they were letting me hoon the Noble about, when I came back in the 'pits' my dad couldn't believe it was me driving, and thought it was the instructor, not blowing my own horn here, merely emphasising the lack of constraint the guy had for the brand new noble!)

All in all a great, great day.  I would be well up for doing one again.

If I was going to do another supercar day, I'd probably do this one..

Have to say the best value for money for fun I've had has to be this place..

This was brilliant! Handbrake turns, opp lock technique, I nearly tipped a car up with snap oversteer, brilliant, brilliant fun.  My arms hurt for weeks after!

Yeah I've wanted to do this too, but will probably save it for when there is a school reunion, and I can get that girl I always wanted when I pull up in my lambo   s:lol:  s:lol:

"Oh what car do I drive?...oh well"

Also the places i've tried in the past,  won't let you hire one unless your 25+ for obvious reasons. My best mate and I were planning to rent yellow and black 355's and drive to France.  He had a Tuscan at the time, but they wouldn't let him drive the Ferrari as he wasn't 25.

This is the company I've dealt with before...they have some pretty good bargain deals for those who are interested.

Honda S2000 for £450 for a 4 day week is tempting...

Have you seen the deposit required to hire one of those cars?  blue chip cars will let you have a lambo, but want a 5grand deposit.

Mike, that is all brilliant stuff!! Cheers for that!!!

I am going to make a few enquiries on a few things from these sites. I fancy hiring the Elise and going to Wales for a day but I also fancy doing the Noble thing to.

If you DO have that video of things, I would certainly be int erested in having a quick squizz at that if you wouldn't mind?

All great info mate. Cheers!!!

Oh yeah one more thing. I have had a good look at the Silverstone Rally thing and I have to say, although it does look good, I can't make too much of a comparison as I was well and trully spoilt by one of the best driving days out I have ever had at the Phil Proce Rally School. Now THAT was quite something. BRILLIANT day out. Full tuition, get to hoon around a full spec WRX Escort, passenger rides at full race speed with Phil himself.......the lot, all in the Welsh forests. Just a stunning thing to do and would whole heartedly recommend it. So, I think some track time might be in order now...............  s8) 8) s8)

No problem John, that rally day you did sounds awesome! Have you got a weblink that would be great!

While I'm thinking at this early hour, if you do book one of these days get them to confrim what cars they have that day, as I know they tend to swop them around quite a bit.  Also the Prestwood facility, on the Red letter day Ferrari experience is the only one where you can drive the 360.  This is the one I went on, and it was a very cool circuit. On an airfield, but a good variety of corners etc. Plus the Land Rover thing we got to do was pretty cool.

Also in the past the 360 has been very tempramental, with the F1 box on one of them seemingly destroying itself all the time.  It apparently costs £11,000 to fix.   When I went they only had the one 360, so that is why I got a go in the lambo.  They of course let you come back and have a go in the 360, but if your travelling a good way might be worth checking its in good working order before you go!

The video is in Hi8 Format, so I can either send it or put it up on the internet somewhere..let me know which is easiest John

Cheers,

Mike

Thats good info that Mike. Nice one. Cheers.

The Rally link is  m http://www.philprice.co.uk (http://www.philprice.co.uk) m

I can do nothing but recommend it. Was my 30th b'day present and I have EVERY intention of going back there, it was that good. And its not just a couple of hours either. Its a good 8-9 hours ALL DAY. Well worth it.......

As for the video, is it big one? Cos if it isn't, it may just be easier to stick it on the net somewhere and give me the link. I have broadband, so I am not too worried about file sizes and the like..........

But only if that is not much trouble. If it is, I can always PM you my address and then you can post it to me and I can post it back to you when I have had a squizz..........

Cheers for the Link..if your going sometime in the future let me know John I'd be VERY interested in doing that also!

Okay I'll find a place to stick it on the net..I'll get the highlights together! (Not many as my old man is the worst camera man ever..follows ghost cars for hours). Won't be for a few days yet as I have to go and get the video from my old mans house.

I'll post the link here when its done!

Mike

Yeah, nice one Milke. MUCH appreciated! Ta!

When I get round to going (I was hoping later on this summer, but not sure now........) I will definately let you know. Would be good to have a few people there. They have a mini competition at the end of the day where you are let loose on your own and employ the skills you have learned and just go aas fast as you can............

Slightly embarrassed to say this, but I won................by quite some margin too........
  s:oops:  s:oops:   I loved it!!!!  s:twisted:  s:twisted:

Not sure when it will be now though, but if this year, will let you know..........

QuoteOoh that sounds like fighting talk to me John! Nah seriously I'm in too, though not for a while as I have absolutely no spare cash at the moment. Unless someone wants to pay for me to go?
