Title: Interior light to puddle lights
Post by: Anonymous on March 19, 2013, 22:15
Hello all

I have bought some wing mirror puddle lights, the instructions say black wire to ground and red wire to internal light positive. The idea being when you open locks with remote, the puddle lights turn on with the internal light. Likewise when you turn car off the puddle lights come on with interior light.

So I have earthed the puddles to the metal on the doors and run the red wire through the door grommets and fed to the inside of the car. Tested by connecting the red wire temporarily to a positive feed and they work.

Now firstly can someone confirm that the internal reading light does come on when you first unlock the doors with the remote like on other cars? (not physically open the doors).  And likewise light comes on when the car is turned off, on other cars there is some kind of timer that the light stays on for so many seconds and then fades out.
My interior light is not working on auto, but works when you flick the switch to manual on. Could be I have the door switches missing, bought the car like that recently.

I hope the interior light is suppose to come on with the remote to open, otherwise I would have wasted my money.

Unfortunately I'm 99% sure mine only come on when the door is opened, not when it is unlocked or switched off.

Not good news for me. Maybe I can get them to activate from the central locking with some kind of timer?

100% the internal lights only come on with the doors open.

You might be able to get something from another car that triggers the lights to come on with the processs of unlocking the vehicle. Id try and find a car that does it and see if you can find what in the vehicle triggers it to do it. I managed to find a dimmer which dims the interior lights rather than just shut them off. It works well.

Im not sure if what you're looking for will be triggered by the ECU though. In which case its unlikely ul be able to achieve what you want

i know the corsa does it.. theres a setting in the ECU tho.. when unlocked you can either just have hazards flash as normal, interior light come on and hazards, headlights come on and hazards, horn beeps twice and hazards or all of the above.. pretty sure its just through ecu tho..

This is looking more complicated. There must be someone out there who has a definite solution.

I installed footwell courtesy lights and connected the same way you did. well sort of...

The door switches are for negative and i had to pull positive from the battery. Although the interior door light does not come on when i unlock with the alarm remote, the footwell lights to switch on.

very weird indeed, but i aint complaining.   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

My roadster lights only come on with the doors ,on the mk2 the lights came on with the locks ,and dimmed automatically
not sure if that was just a part of the after-market alarm, or standard though
