Title: Head Unit Surround
Post by: Jap GT300 on June 21, 2004, 12:24
I saw a surround a little while ago that was double din similar to the stock but had to small side pieces to finish it off.  Does anyone have this or know the part number as Toyota are currently denying that this exists.

I presume it came with the roadster Sony unit

Maybe, I can't remember.

Toyota keep ordering the same normal surround and they dont have a specific picture on their computer.

Where did you get yours?

Adam,

the standard surround fits a standard double DIN unit (or 2 single DIN units)

teh sony as fitted to the pre-03 roadsters is slightly smaller than a full DIN width due o having no bezel. A custom one was supplied to Toyota with it for teh roadster as it needed to overlap the centre legs anyway.

This isn't available seperately from Toyota there is no part number and even Sony won't supply it on it's own.

If using a normal single din unit, without mounting frame, or a common or garden Double Din unit like yours you need teh standard surround (that you have) plus teh spacers for teh sides, part numbers as per teh euroroadster article.

These are Toyota parts though not roadster specific.

Ah yes, the big sony unit that came as stock in the UK Pre-'03, had its own surround, shaped to match the contours of the Sony headunit. Its useless with anything else. Mine is made up seperate little bits, including a bezel, and two inserts that go in the sides to match up to standard DIN width units...  Its the same as the unit on the euroroadster fitting guide.
