Title: Fitting Blue/white LED headlights & sidelights
Post by: KCisonFire on May 29, 2013, 20:14
Hi guys, as its nearing payday, I'm looking at what else I can do to my 2. I flash taped the doors (fantastic tip thanks to this board, I can hear the middle tones in music again!)

I was browsing the boards and I really like the idea of fitting some cheap blueish LED sidelights and main beam bulbs.  I really like of xenon lights rather than yellow filament bulbs.

However, I've heard stories of failing MOTs and dashboard warnings on other car boards, anyone had any problems on the MR2?

Here are the bulbs I'm thinking of getting:

Headlights:   m http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1202730414 (http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=261202730414) m

Sidelights:   m http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 0631984179 (http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=280631984179) m

Thoughts or recommendations?

I think you will find blue lights and HID conversions may present difficulties with the MOT.

Ive got a car through MOT's with white side lights no problem. It doesn't have an effect on the dash. Im pretty sure the blue blue ones are illegal. Being a police colour and all!

Retro fitted HID's are an MOT fail and wholly annoying for most other people on the road. They are certainly not liked around here.

Take a search for head light bulbs on here and you will see plenty of opinions regarding this. I personally run Phillips Xtrem's which are very good on both FL and Pre FL head lights

+1 New MOT regs mean that you have to have wipers and levellers to be able to pass with HIDs (which our cars don't have)

I need them in my life rich.. They are amazing..

But I have a low wattage HID kit on my 2.. It's 7000k temperature.. Not overly bright.. Look good and passed the MOT?

Really?  I must have ridiculously small hands then, I changed my sidelights within 10 minutes!   s:oops:  s:oops:

Well, I think I may order and fit these and just replace with stock filaments when MOT comes round then  s:P :P s:P

Anyone know how 'blue' these Philips Blue Vision headlights are though?  I know a few people on these boards have used them 'Aki' has posted a few pics.

Don't want to get pulled over everytime it gets dark tbh.

They are not really blue, just whitish.  I've had them before. Just weren't quite as good as the xtremes.

Thanks Nathan.  I think I'll give them a try when the nights start drawing in.
