Title: My car has no alarm!
Post by: BARNPOT on June 20, 2013, 22:00
Probably being a bit dimmer than usual, but I foolishly (I think) assumed the car would have an alarm fitted as standard.I didn't really think about it until recently, but thought it strange that I could not trigger it on purpose.I checked the book and it just gives details about locking and double locking and immobiliser .

Is it normal for this car to NOT have an alarm fitted as standard,or is it because it was a Dutch import perhaps? Anyone ?

Mine is the same - Has immobiliser but no alarm - An import!!
Alarms are useless (IMO) The only person that is going to react to the alarm is yourself - and anyways they drain the battery!!  s:roll:  s:roll:

Kind of disappointing that it doesn't have an alarm. Also not keen to rush out to get one if you know what I mean..... I think I will live without it   s:| :| s:|

My Mk2 was the same - A UK edition hybrid - no alarm but had immobiliser - had all the relevant window stickers proclaiming an Anti-theft System - Had no probs in the 17 years I owned it - Now have the same set up on the 2 ( Think about it - How many times have you been in a multi- storey and heard an alarm being triggered - You look - see a guy near the motor in question and think "Is that the owner?" If it is or not you ain't going to get involved - it's not your motor!! What's the point of an Alarm then!!  s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

My MR2 MK3 was the same, so I investigated and the car should be prewired for the alarm, I then went onto ebay and found two people selling the full OEM alarm system and it is easy to install, I accidently bidded and won both!

I have fitted one and it works perfectly, so I have the other one for sale if you are interested! I am looking for £100 for the complete after fit alarm system including fitting instructions.

PM me if you are interested.

you have to remove the seats, the centre console, the frunk and a the under dash below the steering wheel, all easy by removing a couple of bolts/ screws...I think it took me about 2 hours to fit it all, everything just plugs into the already existing sockets! if you PM me your email address, I can send you the installation instructions for you to decide.

Is it only the facelifts that have alarms? Mine has one under spare wheel?

No, UK models had the alarm fitted on arrival to these shores and all were fitted under the spare wheel (for some silly reason!).

thats just the alarm sounder under the spare wheel, the alarm ECU is installed below the behind seat boxes under the centre console.
