Title: Removal of Seatbelt Mechanism
Post by: Comer on June 30, 2004, 09:28
A bit of a long shot.......

Has anyone had reason to remove the seatbelt clasp(?) from the seats of their car?  Was it difficult / easy?  Anything to watch out for?  The 2 thin wires look a bit fragile.

I fitted some leather seats to mine at the weekend (from a wrecked 2) and last night I found out that neither seatbelt clasp is working.  So I have to take my original cloth seats out of the loft  s:roll:  s:roll:  and change these parts over.  Fingers crossed I can do it!!!

Well it looks like no-one has changed the seatbelt 'clasps' before so it was a matter of learning as I went along.

It was a simple enough job with only one bolt holding the clasp to the seat frame and it was a matter of just freeing the wire which was held to the seat bottom with a small clip.

However on closer inspection it turns out that the mechanism may have not been faulty after all.  The reason my seatbelt in my car would not click into the clasp is because it is of a different design  s:roll:  s:roll:

So just to warn any prospective seat swappers, you may have to change the seatbelt clasps over as well.  The seats were from an X reg and my car is an 02.

In the pic below the mechanism inside the right hand one is more prominent and probably clamps differently.
