Title: Bulb out behind rev counter
Post by: mavrick007 on July 15, 2013, 03:39
Hi - apologies if this has already been posted etc

It appears one of the bulbs behind my tacho/rev counter is out (between 2-4k revs is not lit up). Can someone tell me how to gain access to it, change it and what type of bulb to get please?

Thanks

To get to it - Pull off the plastic cover thing around the 3 dials - just a quick yank and it comes off.

Then you should see 3 screws - unscrew

Then pull off the 3 plugs on the back of the unit

Then I cant remember if you can replace a bulb right there (Should see some black things which can be twist) or you might need to take of a white cover too (few screws)

As for which bulb to get? not sure I need some too tho

Thanks for that

Does anyone have any photos of the steps explained above and does anyone know the types of bulbs/weblinks where I can buy some as I want to have them ready when I do the job

Cheers

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but whilst your there it might be worth silencing the annoying buzzer that beeps at everything.

I found the reversing beeps are really really annoying and loud. So I did the steps above, opened up the cluster to find the black buzzer - put a strip of selotape over the top and a single pin prick in the whole means the beep is a lot quieter. You can still hear it (thanks to the pin prick) but it doesn't sound like your reversing an artic.

The bulbs are type 2721 (USA designation) and are available here
http://www.bulbtown.com/2721_MINIATURE_BULB_SUB_MINIATURE_WEDGE_BASE_p/2721.htm
among other places.

If one bulb has burned out, the others will probably fail soon.
I'd replace all (12 or so) bulbs.

I tried LEDs.
I got very poor gauge illumination and no brightness adjustment from the dimmer control.
How is your installation behaving?

before you pull the binnacle off drop the steering wheel, makes it easier

wide angle LEDs work fine in mine

That looks nice, but it doesn't look standard.
Have you started a thread explaining how you did it?

purchased from a company call Metal Monkey a few years ago, several people have had them made up, straight swap for original dial faces. Posted something in the appearance section when I first fitted them.
