Title: That alarm
Post by: bobmcc13 on October 10, 2013, 15:37
Hi there. I hope someone can point me in the right direction to get my alarm working.

When I dead lock the car and rock it or try the doors there is silence.

I have locked the car up with the windows open and thrown things in, again silence.

I have checked the siren and it looks OK, the wiring is plugged in and looks sound.

Should there be a detector of some sort in the cabin? I can't find one anywhere so how does the car know it's being messed with?

Any pointers or instructions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

There is a unit hidden under the carpet behind the seats between the luggage bins, on top of the tunnel where the handbrake and gear change cables head toward the engine bay, it has a knob for adjusting sensitivity on top of it .... if it hasn't been removed.

That's brilliant, I'll go rooting tomorrow.

Thanks for the info.

Set the Alarm as usual with the button then when its set put the key in the door and unlock it with the key, the alarm will still be set and should go off immediately you turn the key, this will tell you if the alarm is working at all.

Thanks Ian
I have just tried that.

I pressed the button twice and waited a few seconds then successfully unlocked the door with the key. I opened the door wide, the red light was showing on the dash but not a squeak from the siren.

Is there a fuse hidden somewhere?

This is getting annoying.

I think that next I would see if there was a member nearby that would be willing to let you try their sounder in your car, if this fixes it then all you need is a good second hand sounder.

Do the indicators flash when the alarm is supposed to be going off?

CRACKED IT

The plunger in the engine bay had been bent down and wasn't being pressed by the lid.

The bracket was straightened and all works OK now.

Thanks for all the replies from various members, it's nice to know there is someone out there willing to help.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but what do you mean by the plunger in the engine bay and what bracket?  Many thanks , Pat

If you look just to the top right of the red battery terminal you'll see a bracket with a black press sensor on...

Where the red plastic battery terminal cover is, it's the round black thing at 1 or 2 o'clock.

Right, plunger all seems good.  What's the area behind the seats with the adjusting knob? Has anyone a pic?
Many thanks

Yeah, just can't work out where.  Wondered if someone had a pic. Do I need to pull the carpet up?
