Title: Lidl stereo
Post by: ShieldsOnTour on November 25, 2013, 11:25
Just seen this on the Lidl site for today:

http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/SID-C68A52F3-058BD259/www_lidl_uk/hs.xsl/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=7624

As I want a HU with bluetooth, think I may see if the local place has one. Never heard of the brand so no idea what the quality is going to be like ....

40w. That will be pretty shoddy.  Halfords had a Sony one in for £59.99 the other week which was 52w so much better

Really Tim  s:?: :?: s:?:

You've not exactly pinched any pennies with your recent mods to your 2 so quite surprised to see you scrimping on the ICE. I'm not saying this will be a bad unit but there is that Sony unit in Halfords for not much more.

Or for the same price there's http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_918071_langId_-1_categoryId_165655 driveless Pioneer @ £49.99 which I think I saw listed on these forums recently too.

Or are you just listening to Radio 4 & hoping to drown out Jon Snow with your exhaust when he gets lippy with his interviewees   s:P :P s:P

I certainly wouldn't bother with a CD player anymore, I never once used the one in my JVC unit in the 4 years I owned it.

Great price - but like anything in life you get what you pay for and I'm confident it will sound terrible. For a little more you can get a branded headunit which shouldn't disappoint.

I agree, you get to pay over the odds just for the brand name.
Fact is, Lidl and Aldi are screwing the competition because they can supply a quality product at a budget price because of their cost structure and international retail clout. 30 day no quibble refund, 3 year manufacturers warranty etc. They are scaring the sh!t out of the opposition.

(Just my unbiased opinion of course   s:lol:  s:lol:  ).

For me it has to be either jvc or pioneer.  The jvc in my mr2 is awesome. Strangely enough the majority of my BMW I've owned have all had alpine stereos.  They do the job too.

The difficult bit is find one with an orange display, not sure about pioneer but the JVC's are usually multi colour?

Yes my jvc definitely has an orange option. I usually have mine on green to match the car lol

Car Audio Centre has some cracking deals on at the moment mind. Pioneer for 60 quid. JVC double-din for 90

A Sony BT2900 came with my new 2 and I'm quite pleased with its sound and ability to stream via Bluetooth from my iPhone. It can be had quite cheap off eBay, and the aerial still works as well. Goes up when you select Tuner and down with anything else.
The controls are "meh" though. Not bad at all, but not great. But I find most controls on single-dins quite shocking
