Post by: Anonymous on July 29, 2004, 20:36
My '00 Spyder now have alot of white smoke coming out from the exhaust...  s:( :( s:(

if it is a pre-cat failure, does it makes alot of white smoke? its not because of the weather, because it is only 70 degree outside...

White smoke sounds like a Head Gasket, but I've not heard of one going before.

Just wondering...when was the last time you took a long drive? The exhaust can gather quite a lot of water in it in short drives and it comes out as white smoke...and also dripping from the end.

Does the smoke smell of anything?

If the head gasget is gone, the white smoke is coolant. So keep an eye if your coolant level is going down.
(make sure you always check it cold/hot, cause it varies between them)

well, the smoke doesnt smell anything. not like burning oil. hmm... i left my spyder in the garage for almost 3 weeks now... because im waiting for my PPE headers to come. would it be the coolant leaking? im a mechanical noob...

The coolant shouldn't leak just because it was sitting for 3 weeks. But if the head gasget is gone, the coolant gets into the engine and comes out as white smoke. Just keep an eye on the coolant level and you will know if it's this.

I'd bet it's just water/moisture in the exhaust system, especially after sitting for 3 weeks. If it's that, it should go away after a nice long drive.

so if my coolant level is dropping, that means my head gasket is gone?

Probably will do as this is the most probable cause if you continue getting white smoke as well.
