Title: Recommended single din housing
Post by: mulaz on March 10, 2014, 16:09
Can anyone recommend a radio single din housing that looks factory fitted?

i purchase one from Ebay with a small tray underneath thinking this would be ok

fit and looks are rubbish gaps all around unit not what i was expecting  s:( :( s:(

Edit ...just found out i had to strip down old radio trim. this then covers the said gaps  s:) :) s:)

so i have answered my own question!

This is the one I bought from eBay, fits a treat and even comes with the wiring adaptor so plugged straight in.  It's a universal adaptor so you have to cut off the lugs you don't need but all in all I think it looks good.

Here it is fitted

I take it you are happy with it? Was the provided adaptor easy to use (simple plug in and play) and was this a pre or post facelift car?

That looks like a facelift surround.....they seem to quote FP 11-03 for all years but i dont think an early surround will fit as its thicker at the sides unless you are supposed to buy a facelift surround to match.

Mine was for a 2004 model and was plug and play for the wiring.
the frame kit supplied is made to fit a number of toyota cars.

You only have a simple matter of snapping off some plastic unused lugs. (instructions supplied)

Then  remove the trim around the original car radio and pop that on to finish the installation.

looks factory fitted.  s:) :) s:)   Def worth the money

Hmmm yeh I don't know if that surround will fit in to the pre facelift space as it looks different:

(hope the mr2roc member is ok with me using this pic..)

Pictures in this thread suggest it doesn't fit very well on pre FL cars :/

The fascia seems great for facelift cars, it's sussing out the situation with preFL that's proving trickier. . .
