Title: Crossover Mounting Position
Post by: Mikeymead on August 7, 2014, 08:36
Hi,

Would it be OK to mount the speaker crossovers in the door cavity below and slightly behind the woofer or would it be too likely to get damp there?

I know some people mount the crossover on the foam "Shelf" on the inside of the door card but I think mounting it in the cavity will make wiring a bit simpler and neater.

Cheers.

Yes, you can, but yes, it will be subject to moisture. Can you protect it from the moisture a bit, if so should be okay.

Thanks for the reply,  installed the left hand side tonight and gave it a test, not sure if I've done something wrong but the new speakers sound worse than the stock, they are clear enough but lack richness. Maybe I've got the polarity wrong but the woofer lacks bass. Have a look tomorrow night if it's not raining. Might also swap the cable for something thicker. I'm not running an amp so maybe the speakers are too large for the head unit.

I think this is probably the scenario. A proper/decent component driver is designed for a higher RMS than the head unit can reliably give. This way it can't get the speaker moving properly/fast enough to give you a decent bass response and it ends up quiet and/or muffled. Amping is the way to go to get decent sound.

Having now fully installed them they are not so bad but I agree with AndyM and I may get a small amp at a later date.

After having an other play with the settings on the head unit I have managed to get them to sound very good, I'm now quite pleased with them.  s:D :D s:D
