Title: Double din
Post by: no1trancefan on September 12, 2014, 13:10
I was thinking of getting a double din head unit, ive had a single din that long with the fascia i can't remember what the original was like, will i need a new fascia to fit a double din in the usual place?

cheers guys

For a facelift you will need a surround from a facelift unit......the mounting brackets (they screw on to your new unit) and the side filler pieces.

We had a right game fitting my double din, felt I was stripping half the car just to get the original stereo out.. I might have done it the hard way not sure but all the side panels and the heater dials had to come off etc. :S

Sounds like you did it the right way to me.
It is a bit of a faff.

I thought when I did mine it went easier than I expected, must have been lucky.

Side strips and heater panel off is the correct procedure. If it was easier then more might go missing!!
I changed mine in the same way in about 20 mins and I have stubborn knobs.  s;-) ;-) s;-)

In fairness I have wanted one for about 2 years!

I had the Fischer Price Sony unit in there beforehand so I had the fascia and brackets already. From memory it did have a fascia of it's own, but this looks waaaay better.

Here's mine I fitted recently, not as expensive as some but I've been pleased with it.

LOVE that one Mikey, and the orange matches the rest of the roadster's dash lights!  My single din glows bright blue, and while it looks quite cool, it doesn't really go with anything.

Thank you, I am quite pleased with it, you can adjust the colours so you can match it to the car quite well.

Lee,

What is the part number ( or do you have a link) of the surround you have there, my facia wouldn't accept my cage so had to build a frame to hold the radio in and I'm not 100% happy with it.

Thanks

Adam.

Its the original prefacelift Sony surround. I didn't buy any parts to fit it.

Ah ok mine had a single din after market fitted so guess the previous owner must have bodged it!
I will have another look and get it right, both the radio and the drinks holder tray part stick out too far or the strut bits are too far back.

Thanks for your help.

another quick question, the mounting brackets etc and the surround from a pre facelift will it fit a facelift, as the surround is much better looking imo
