Title: Just collected my first MR2
Post by: Anonymous on September 24, 2004, 15:35
Just picked up my new silver MR2 c/w hardtop (thanks again for your colour advice) and I'm grinning from ear to ear. Even managed a drive today with the top down, fantastic!   s8) 8) s8)

One slight concern I have is the poor quality plastics used for the interior, which seem the mark very easily. Has anybody found a product, which helps to protect or disguises the scuffs/marks?

Also my car came with one of Mr T's body work protection systems (Protect and Care) together with an after care kit containing shampoo, leather cleaner/waterproofer (allegedly for the soft top?). Does anyone know if it's any good? Should I use the kit provided or obtain other quality products? Can I polish or wax on top of the already applied protection?

Thanks,

Andy

I use Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care on both the top and interior plastics.

I find it works wonders on both, especially the platic as it makes it look a lot darker and richer and less cheap.

Does it make the interior plastics shiney? I strive to keep mine matt, so as to avoid glare.

erm, i guess it makes them more reflective, you can alter the amount of "shine" by leaving it on for longer or not.  I've certainly never been blinded by the reflection.

I wipe it off straight away and it has a sort of darker, wet look.

according to the V&R care stuff you can use a damp cloth to give a more matt finish.

Cool!  Enjoy your lovely new car.

For interior plastics, I use Autoglym Fast Glass, which cleans the plastic but leaves no residue.  Doesn't alter the appearance, but does remove the majority of marks.  I like it because it doesn't leave a shiny finish.

Thanks all, but not many suggestions re: car interior/body care. Sounds like I'm a bit to particular!

Liz, I have to admit I've already started thinking about mods but perhaps I should concentrate on paying for the car first! I'll let you know.  s:wink:  s:wink:

for interior plastics, matt look is better as shiny just makes it look even cheaper!

i used a bit of that 'back to black' stuff and it made my interior all shiny and cheap and tacky looking...  s:? :? s:?

Yeah...the more stuff you use, the shinier it will be. I've found it best to first clean the surface and then put V&R on so little that it probably makes no difference at all  s:lol:  s:lol:
