Title: What size tyres are you running Goodyear F1s on 15inch rears
Post by: Anonymous on September 28, 2004, 14:15
I've fancied getting Goodyear F1s for ages, but couldn't get one end of the car in GSD3 and I didn't want to mix GSD2s and GSD3s, so got Bridgestone S03s again last time.

My mate runs a tyre depot and called last week to say he has got me some front F1 GSD3s in 195/50/15 which we fitted on Saturday, problem is that I have now realised that 205/50/15s are not available in GSD3s for the rear, and it was the rears in GSD3 which were the problem.

Is anyone running GSD3 rears on 15" rims in which case what size ?

Alternatively is anyone running GSD3 fronts and GSD2 rears - how is the balance, I am finding the front has a lot more grip with GSD3's then the S03s I had before, I am still running SO3 rears so can scrub these out over the next few months, but want to know what to put on the rears next !

Cheers

James.

PS. In case no-one knows what he hell I am talking about here are some pics, GSD2 on left are curvy, newer GSD3 on right are straight.
GSD3s are supposedly much better and certainly look nicer (not that that should matter).

You've up'd the fronts to 195/50 from 185/55, so why not tweak the rears to 215 rather than 205?  if they do them and they fit?

Just to update this, I spoke to Goodyear tech dept this morning, they said that GSD2s have been withdrawn in 205/50/15 so only existing dealer stock is available.

They couldn't give specific advice for my car (2000 Roadster), but said generally they would not suggest running different tyres front and back, so suggested I replace the rear tyres with something else (S03's I used before), and see how the car felt with the GSD3 fronts, and change them if I wasn't happy.

They were very helpful, but basically they couldn't suggest any alternative tyres to run on the rears with GSD3 fronts.

James - I'm in a similar situation to you - looking for replacement 15" F1 rears ('cept I'm on gsd-2 fronts).

As far as "existing dealer stock" is concerned, so far I've tracked down just one GSD-2 rear (its in Glasgow!). No sign of any 3's.

However, the friendly folk at blackcircles.com tell me that tyre manufacturers have been known to withdraw certain tyres for a few months in order to boost their poorer-selling lines (There might be some truth in this - I'm being offered NCT5s everywhere I go). So, they say I should wait to see if GSD-3s come back on the menu soon.

Let me know how you get on. I've got a few months left in my current boots, but am so impressed with the F1s that I don't really want to change. If I do, i suppose it'll be for Toyos.

I didn't think that they'd ever made GSD3s for the 15" rear?   s:? :? s:?

Has anyone yet found a source of Eagle F1 GSD3's in rear size?  Needing tyres real soon!

Goodyear have never made GSD3 in 205/50/15 and they say they have no plans to do so.

According to the Goodyear rep, Goodyear have no plans to make GSD3s in any new 15" sizes (you can check the current sizes they make at    m http://www.goodyear.co.uk/services/tyre ... _gsd3.html (http://www.goodyear.co.uk/services/tyreguide/feat_eagle_f1_gsd3.html) m   ).

I was told that GSD2s in 205/50/15 are being withdrawn, so unless you find a dealer with existing stock, they are not available. If you speak to a big chain tyre place (Bathwick or Kwik-fit), they should be able to check stock throughout all their branches, and get tyres brought down for you.

I think the only reason Goodyear continued to make GSD2s is for low volume selling sizes that do not justify the tooling for GSD3s, and even then it may only be a short term measure.

I would go for Toyo's as everyone speaks very highly of them, but my tyre fitter mate reckons the distributor is a c%$^ so he won't deal with them.  I was happy on Bridgestone SO3's before though, so could either go for them, or my mate is very keen for me to try out some Kumho tyres, which he raves about, so might give them a go.

James.

If Toyos are what you want, then get them. Tell your tyre fitter mate that unfortunately he's lost a sale. Don't compromise on the only item between you and the road.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Only 1 garage i asked could get Toyo's (the rest said that Toyo wouldn't deal with them) and they could only get the fronts as the rears were on back order.

MrT mentioned that they had the same trouble to me when trying to get some for a customer.

I bought some from camskill and they came the next day, so give them a ring if you fancy them...

I just bought some Toyo T1R's for the rear from Camskill too. Cost £49 each and they arrived in LESS than 24hrs with free delivery!!!  I would rather have GY Eagle F1's but unless I go 16/17" then it's a no-go by the looks of it...

Just noticed that price is for '03 fronts. Still a stupidly cheap price though!   Camskill are still the cheapest for the pre'03 rears.
