Post by: luap on January 7, 2015, 20:37
Hi just new to club.
I have a 2001 roadster it came without remote key can I buy a second hand key and reprogram it ? Local dealer say a remote key cannot be programed with out the old one being present ?

As far as I am aware, you do need an original master key to be able to programme a secondary one. Not sure anyone has figured out another way to do it without that didn't involve a swap out of ignition barrel, locks etc.

See my thread here:  l viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52560 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52560) l

It is possible, but Toyota can't do it. You need to go to a good auto-locksmith who can dismantle the ECU and reprogram the chip in there to know your new remote key(s). I recommend the company I used, but they probably don't cover you area.
