Title: Painting Camcover
Post by: markiii on November 1, 2004, 13:36
right, my spare camcover is now ready for painting.

anyone care to comment on wether I should use heat resistant paint? I know it will get warm but will it get hot enough to be a problem with a normal body paint?

Any thoughts on wether enamel woudl be better than gloss?

cheers chaps.

I used normal paint and it seems to hold on just fine.

I've done this on a few previous cars (an MX5 and 2 Westfields with Ford Zetec engines) and personally think the best method is to have them powder coated. It's so much more durable plus its thickness helps to  cover and rough/porous elements to the rocker cover. The guy I use charges about £25 to shot blast, powder coat and laquer one and the finish is superb.

I can Mark, no problem, but he's in Worcestershire. Are you ever in that area? Otherwise I'm sure if you check the yellow pages there will be someone similar in your area.

I'm really interested in how this turns out as I've been meaning to do this for a while.  I've seen some nice jobs done on some of the US spyders.  Good luck Mark, look forward to seeing the results!   s:D :D s:D

Normal spray paint has held up in mine for ages now although I do agree that £25 for powder coating would be a good option.

Yeah, I can only think of one downside to powder coating...you have to remove the cover for that, right? If you can do that, then £25 is practically free  s8) 8) s8)

For anyone interested the company I use is 'Redditch Shotblasting & Powdercoaters' on 01527 529659.

It's ran by two brothers, Dave & Paul Joynes, and I always deal with Paul. If you do use them please mention that Steve Molyneux from Kenilworth recomended them.   s:) :) s:)

Finally please don't quote any prices as I can only confirm what I pay having used them for several years and had lots of work done. Having said that though, they have always been very reasonable and I'd be suprised if it cost any more than £30 anyway.

Steve.

anybody have any thoughst on whether break calipers can be powder coated? is it a good idea or a no no?

sounds like it would be a nightmare, unless you can either remove or mask up the pistons

well I have 4 spare calipers that need rebuilding anyway, so from that point of view no big deal
