Evening all,
I've searched and found a few posts about HIDs and LED 501 bulbs but they are quite old and the links etc no longer work. After having my 2 for a few days now ive found that I need to replace a rear high level bulb (no real issue there although can anyone confirm the bulb required for this?), and there is something going on with one of the projector headlamps. The drivers side is super bright, but the passenger side seems to be quite dull, I'm wondering if the bulb isn't seated in the projector possibly (is this a likely cause? never had projector headlamps before) as generally bulbs work or they don't.
If the bulb is not operating properly i'm thinking about going down the HIDS route for the projectors as they generally throw out a higher level of light. Can anyone who has already fitted HIDS through some info on what to look out for? I understand I need to get holders for the HID bulbs as well? Would this kit be ok? :

I'm looking for a kit that would just plug and play straight in, I don't like cutting looms. Can anyone recommend a good kit?
Along a similar vein I did see a post on here (Although posted about 7 years ago lol) about white quad 501 LED bulbs that looked pretty good and illuminated the number plate nicely. can anyone recommend which bulbs these were.
Lastly, Do I need to consider canbus compliant replacement bulbs/leds/HIDS or is this not an issue for the Roadster?

Hey RD, I have fitted led 501 canbus side light bulbs and HID'S and all I can say is what a transformation!!!

Any H7 HID kit will do the job. They are all designed to be plug and play. Only issue you will encounter is that the bulb fitting got the projector has, what I can only describe as what you get in a pizza box to stop it being squashed. It will make sense when you read through my thread. You will need to modify that bit then your all good!
As for canbus, I don't believe you need canbus stuff but I just got them for a good price.
As for the bulbs being dull and bright, have you checked the lights against a wall or garage door? Or squat down and see. Sounds like what you said, one of them (unfortunately the bright one) must have been fitted on the p1ss. It's no wonder with the amount of space you have to work with if doing this in situ.
Be warned, for doing what you want to do, the bumper will have to come off. Not a mega hard job.
One bright and one dull headlight may be a bad earth with the bright one getting more current perhaps?

Soooo just had it apart, the lazy sod who owned it before hadn't clipped the bulb in, tested bulb, all OK, got a mirror, thirty seconds later job done!
I'll be considering hids though s:) :) s:)
Just be aware that HID's on our cars aren't legal so depending on your tester could fail an MOT
I've got Osram Nightbreaker on mine & have on previous 2 had Ring bulbs which are type approved and a vast improvement over OEM

I checked with the MOT tester on this and he said as the MR2 has a projector lamp (well the fl anyway) the light pattern was fine. However the only thing he found that would be a problem is that cars with HIDS should have headlight washer jets. Apart from that nothing in the rules. So I guess it depends how nice your mot tester is and how much he appreciates your car s;) ;) s;)

Thanks bud with HIDS I have never had to change a bulb. That for me in itself makes it worthwhile.
