Title: Interior light delay
Post by: Dougster7 on November 28, 2015, 23:13
I have a gadget from Australia that claims to delay the interior light by up to 45 seconds which requires tapping into the passenger footwell wiring, I'm fairly ok with that but wonder if this would be easier? I've contacted the manufacturer and they can't say for sure this is plug and play with our cars....does anyone know if it is or even if our interior lights run off a relay?

Someone PLEASE say if this is possible!! Imagine not having to poke around in the dark to get the key into the ignition??

That's exactly the same gadget I bought and have at the ready, just wondered if the relay would be useable as would be far easier by not tapping into the wiring... I'd imagine.

I see what you mean. My application involved a separate loop for the footwell lights which was also controlled by the Aussie controller.
I wanted a switched footwell setup but didn't want to break into the dome light wiring to achieve this. The wiring is very simple and there's plenty of options available behind the passenger kiick panel and glove box.

Cool, will prob just fit the Aussie one unless anyone knows more about the relay. Fed up with all the eBay stuff that 'might fit / work' lol

Doug it might be possible to wire it in. Find the common ground and cut it. Then connect the door switch side to the trigger point on the relay, then connect the other end of the cut wire to the feed in and the other point on the trigger system. Then the last point on the relay connect to ground and that should do what you want.

Wow... I'd really like this mod... But I must admit I prefer the whole plug and play approach...

Dougster please let us know how you get on?

I'm just going to use the Aussie gadget as tested and proven, would've tried the relay if there was a place for it to plug in but appears there's not. The work involved wiring the relay would be the same as the thing I already have really so keeping my £16 for a rainy day....oh it's raining....what else can I buy  s:) :) s:)
