IIRC it's meant to be 48l. However, I nearly ran out of fuel today - the car was stuttering under acceleration. When I coasted into the petrol station I filled it to the brim with 45.5l. What happened to the other 2.5l?
This was my own fault though as I ran it for 70 miles with the fuel light on. s:roll: :roll: s:roll:
it's bloomin cold, could well have contracted in the temp and so contain less.
what, the whole tank? Shurely shome mishtake?
Maybe there's water in the bottom of the tank, or gunk or what have you. as it was getting low water may have been sucked in causing the engine to behave weirdly.
Maybe it would have stuttered for another 2.5L before finally stalling.

Did you fill it up till the fuel level reaches the nozzle and cuts the pump for the first time, or all the way up...? Makes a big difference s8) 8) s8)
It will never let you run the tank dry; there will always be several litres remaining when it conks out s:shock: :shock: s:shock:
iirc, the gasoline (sorry, petrol) acts as a coolant for the fuel pump, so you really shouldn't run it that low.......
although i did the very same thing last weekend - coasted into the gas station) s:oops: :oops: s:oops:

I run mine a lot with the light on but never to far. Would like to know myself how many gallons my 01 holds.
Dont ever top the tank off (ie fill the filler neck as well), as the tank in the '2 is under vacuum with the vacuum being drawn off at the top of the tank (ie below the filler neck).
Topping off results in large amounts of fuel being drawn directly into the throttle body via the charcoal canister which was only designed to deal with small amounts of vapour not 1/2 gallon of fuel in one go s:? :? s:?
I used to do this in order to see how far I could get on one tank of fuel, but very quickly discovered it was having a negative impact which meant I was doing ~5 - 6 mpg less (not much I know, but it soon adds up)
