Title: Hard Top Rattle
Post by: Darth Paul on December 6, 2004, 09:20
I've had an incessant rattle coming from the rear of the hardtop on the nearside. I took it off a few weeks ago, flipped it, and silicon'd anything that look like it might rattle. Put it back on but the rattle persisted.  s:evil:  s:evil:

Yesterday, in a flash of inspiration, I thought it might be where the hardtop's rear hooks attach to the chrome plates in front of the engine bay. So I silicon'd these too!  s:shock:  s:shock:   Now I seem to be rattle-free (from the hardtop anyway). The noise might re-appear as the top 'settles', but I think I've cured it. I'll have a bit of silicon removal to do when I take the top off again, but that's a small price to pay!  s:D :D s:D

So anyone else with this rattle, I think i have the cure.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Paul I had a similar rattle and booked it in under the warranty.

Toyota inspected and ordered new catches.

On the day I took the car in I discovered that both near side roof catches were not fully tensioned. After adjusting these the rattles disappeared. I took it in and they replaced the catches anyway!

I assumed that the seal had compressed after the first couple of years or so. Hope this helps.
