I suspect that the wiring on the door loom may be damaged. Rigging up a direct feed from the socket in the passenger foot well would confirm or eliminate this.
I assume you've already examined the balance setting on the head unit?

yup checked balance.   I have new speakers to put in, but suspect the wiring or h/u. was going to use existing wiring. I am getting a little from the tweeter only.

tweeter + woofer use same wires.
the tweeter is connected in parallel with an in-line capacitor.

easy way to test:-

door card off , unplug both stock speakers and temp wire up any speaker.
if nothing -
buy replacement h/u, someone here is bound to have a stock one for real cheap.
replace. still not working then run new wire time.

long way ,cheaper if you have a multimeter.

if fitting new speakers and have both door cards off just swap speakers
check woofer diaphragm still moves without catching.
check for shorts - unplug both stock speakers and measure the loom.
should read open circuit, but may show as just a high resistance.
measure speakers, cant remember but 2,4 or 8 ohms. not 0.

if speakers measure okay you'll have to remove h/u to test wires.
plug speakers back in and measure the corresponding colours on the h/u lead.should get speaker resistance.

Will be taking the other card off tomorrow. Will try the working speaker on it and take it from there.
