I've been carrying a small fire entinguisher behind my seat, since my engine blew back in september (http://www.mr2roc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5275). When it happened, I really thought the car would catch on fire.
Now, after reading this post about the 2 that exploded (http://www.mr2roc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=71081#71081), I'm thinking that behind the seats may not be the best location for it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
how about one of those racing style ones thats mounted in the engine bay with a length of rubber tubeing. When there's a fire it burns thru the tubing and causes the fire extinguisher to empty. No problems with storage then. And before some smart alec says it gets too hot in the engine bay, it's designed to only go off on contact with flame, not engine heat.
I like the idea! I wonder if I'd like the price... s:) :) s:)
Anyway... Any suggestions for the one i currently have?
I bought my MR2 as a euro import (Belgium) and it has a Toyota branded extinguisher mounted in the footwell just in front of the door on the passenger side as standard. It looks OK and no one has set it off with their foot as they climbed in and out [YET!!!!!]
I'll post a picture of the install if you are interested...

Yes, please! s:) :) s:)
or you can bolt one on the plastic trim under the pull handle for the softop but still above the locker doors. I saw one on a 2 at Bolney last year, i think it was Perry190 and did try it on mine, but i've got a set of David's stylebars and the thin fibreglass wasn't strong enough to hold the weight. The plastic standard trim should be more than strong enough for it though.

It looks like a great spot, but... I'd have to dump the rear deflector and I'm sure the G/F wouldn't be happy with that. s:wink:  s:wink: I'm curious about the location mentioned by Steve-O.
Thanks for the illustrative picture Peter!
(To be honest, I have to admit that I have seen it before, when I searched the forum for some information about this subject)
P.S.: I love the MR2ROC!!! This is probably the cosyest (hope I spelled it right) forum on hearth! s:mrgreen:  s:mrgreen:
I'm thinking that with the impending turbo, I really need to look into an extinguisher, so I'll have a think about where to put one too.
here's a pic of mine as promised...

I've been thinking of getting one that fits sideways in the drivers footwell, right in front of the seat. It never bothered me in my Mk1 and should be pretty easy to grab, even if you have to leave the car in a hurry...

Thanks, I guess I'll install it that way. Just to be sure, can you still slide the passenger's seat?
yes, you can still slide the seat - and as Tem says above, it's easy to grab if you need it in a hurry - much better than trying to reach behind the seat!!!!
