Title: Front & Rear lower bars (Ultra Racing or other) - any good?
Post by: jvanzyl on April 29, 2016, 16:06
Hey guys,
Having a browse of the stuff over at ultra racing and I was looking at the lower bars:
"Front lower bar
UR-LA4-420"
"Rear lower bar
UR-RL2-422"

Are these any good? It's basically £200 for the set of front and rear...

Front/ Rear, upper & lower, so 4 bars in total came to £245 delivered. Can't remember having to pay any duty at the time, but I'd have to look through my account to be sure.

Ok cool, it's still cheaper I think. But my main question is if actually fitting the front and rear lower bars does anything noticeable?  I've got a pfl...

I would expect it to be of benefit, I have heard generally lower braces will be more beneficial than top braces and I believe that would be true because the lower arms carry much more of the cornering loads than the top, particularly on strut suspension. I would also think a pfl would particularly benefit.

That's just my view if it helps.

On a pfl you definately need extra bracing.
One of the toyota addons for the fl was front lower bracing.
Personally i wont be bothering.
I think tte mid and trd front and rear strut braces are enough.
I could be tempted by the ARBs though.

Will the front and rear lowers fit on with my Matt Brace (mid) or will there be clashing attachment points/overlap?

I'm liking the look of theses too!

Also, ARB's - easy to remove/replace without messing with suspension/alignment settings?

I'm hoping they will fit as I also have a Matt brace...

Which is better, new ARB's or the front and rear lower arms?

After a little bit of reading up, I'm not sure as to how much stiffening should be done to the car.

ARB's, as I understand them, are to limit the amount of roll of the car, keeping the body level and flatter. However, this could give less prior information as to how close the car is getting to its grip limits and have a narrower window of when the car will lose grip and spin out.

Chassis stiffening gives less flex/harsher ride, but (if I understand it) will not lessen the window of grip/no grip that the ARB's do.

If this is the case, then I'd think the lower stiffening bars could be the better option for handling without making the car easier to lose grip/spin out with little or no warning (cheaper option too).

But this is from someone with minimal knowledge of these cars and how they handle.

Hopefully someone more in the know will come along and correct me.

I'm going to hold out on buying either option (although I have signed up to them now) until I get more opinions from here.

I would brace fit better tyres and coilovers before arb.
The stiffer springs on coilovers must negate stiffer arb to some extent wouldnt you think?

I must say though that after our car limits day the best mod by far is training.
