I see from the guides that 16.5 inch speakers are fitted but would it be possible to fit 16.25 ones as I've got some decent ones spare sitting in my garage?

I take it you mean 16.25 cm, not inches, that's only 2.5mm smaller so I would have thought that they would fit OK.
