Title: VVT-i normal operation.
Post by: Thetroublemaker on June 4, 2016, 13:02
Hi - I have seen this morning a for sale ad for a mr2 saying the VVTI "kicks in correctly"

Now i assume this is not like a VTEC, kicked in yo! thing.

How can i tell if it is working correctly on the car when i test drive it?

It'll throw an error light if faulty.
Make sure all the dash lights come on when switched on, and go off when started.

As you suggest,  the vvt works the whole rev range.

Excellent, thankyou.

I did sort of come to the conclusion it would throw a code if not working, much like most other valve timing implementations i have come across. I assume its a solenoid / motor based setup as opposed to a hydraulic one in hondas implementation.

Aaah ok - i will give it a read up. I had a volvo T5 that had a solenoid plonked on the rocker cover. That was quite simple to say the least!
