Title: Apple car play
Post by: Blue al on August 21, 2016, 11:11
Has anyone fitted a aftermarket Apple car play unit yet ?

Is it worth the hype ?

Or will early adopters have buyers remorse if it drains phone batteries life

Looks like the aftermarket units plug in directly so I would assume it charges as well

I'm thinking about getting something which is CarPlay compatible too if anyone has any experience.

I've played with this in a VW.

Car Play.... I'd use it if it was my only option. Android Auto, on the other hand, is worth switching from Apple to Android IMO.

Yes, I have this unit in my car:  m http://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-da120 (http://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-da120) m

Is it worth the hype? Yes. I use Spotify a LOT and the maps/navigation feature is very useful as I don't need a separate Sat-Nav.

Well worth it, and I'm very pleased.

Yes my Pioneer head has it (& Android auto) haven't tried the Android system with my sons phone yet, but the car play works well with my 5s. Particularly like the hands free reading and composing of text messages.

I had CarPlay in my MR2 for a few days, but the headunit had to go back to who I borrowed it from. Having experienced wireless CarPlay is well worth the hype and I'm working out how I can get it back in my Roadster.

I installed a pioneer 4100nex unit and use apple car play. I really like car play for spotify, navigation and siri.  It seems that you must use apple maps (or google maps) for the voice direction to work correctly, but I am fine with that. The touch screen is responsive and very intuitive. But more surprising is the pioneer unit made the stock speakers sound pretty good.  A little expensive, but I believe with electronics especially, you really do get what you pay for. The unit fit right in the hole. Just had to buy the wiring harness adapter and the kit to fill the space on both sides of the unit. Btw, buy those on ebay. Much cheaper. Hope this helps.
