Title: Simple DAB install
Post by: SombreroPeak on September 12, 2016, 21:56
Well it came time to swap the old radio for a new one and I got feature creep and ended up going for a nice JVC unit with DAB. I looked into the aerial options and found that I could keep the original one, (I like the factory look) If I used a splitter. Anyway, I found a good online store that did the lot, and it was with me the next day. Installation couldn't have been easier, just a case of unplugging the old and plugging in the new, but with the splitter spliced into the wiring.  The results are fantastic with crystal clear sound and lots of stations I've never heard of to scroll through.  Only thing now is, I'm tempted to try and see what options there are to add some speakers behind me, but still keeping the usability of the bins. Will post some pics when the car gets back from Steve at D1.

Great, I'm glad the splitter is working well for you. I recently installed a DAB radio in mine but had heard mixed reviews about splitters and ended up installing a sticky windscreen aerial. This has been faultless so far but again I've seen reviews suggesting they can deteriorate over time. If that turns out to be the case I may go down the splitter route. I haven't considered putting speakers in the rear bins. My next job will be to replace the existing door speakers with something more acceptable and to add some sound deadening.
