Shafts go straight in to the 6 speed only thing you might have problems with is selecting reverse if your using the 5 spped cage but if you pm either patrick (Headcase) or myself we can tell you how to sort that

5 and 6 speed boxes have the same 1-4 gear ratios, it is only 5 and 6 that are changed to make better crusing. So for track use I doubt you would notice any difference.

Import gearboxes are better for track cars I was looking at the diff ratios of the Celica 140 but cannot get a good answer

This is what I know in respect of the Celica:

VVT-i gearbox ratios:-

Final Drive 4.31:1

1st Gear Ratio 3.17:1

2nd Gear Ratio 1.9:1

3rd Gear Ratio 1.31:1

4th Gear Ratio 1.03:1

5th Gear Ratio 0.86:1

6th Gear Ratio 0.73:1

VVTL-i gear ratios:-

Final Drive 4.53:1

1st Gear Ratio 3.17:1

2nd Gear Ratio 2.05:1

3rd Gear Ratio 1.48:1

4th Gear Ratio 1.17:1

5th Gear Ratio 0.92:1

6th Gear Ratio 0.82:1

Dave - do you know what the diff ratio of the MR2 import box is?

A lot of people i talk to say the 5 speeds action is more precise. The 6 CAN be a bit vague

Dean, at Rutland MR2 , who sells stuff to the racers, told me they go for the import 5-speed box with an LSD installed.

Before I bought my 2, this was before I knew of the ROC, I spoke to the local Toyota  dealer about servicing costs.
The service Manager asked whether the car I was considering had a 5 or 6 speed box as the 5 speed was a " better box".

I've owned both and prefer the 5 speed, its very direct.

Standard UK mr2 box is 3.9 ratio diff so a 6 speed celica plus uk lsd and uk 6th might be good
