Title: Looking for noise! - Exhaust and intake options
Post by: swiftyds on October 31, 2016, 08:09
Don't laugh at the title - I've just bought a very tidy but standard 06 plate FL Roadster. Drives very nice, performance not bad once you get the revs up, but I'm looking at some mods to increase the sound levels, particularly at higher revs.

I'm not too fussed about performance increases, and I know I'm limited anyway with the exhaust and intake here. I also don't want the hassle of swapping out exhausts for MOT emissions, so will be keeping this as CAT including standard manifolds.

I've resorted to looking at various Youtube videos to get an idea of the different systems/sounds (TTE, Cobra, Fox etc) but would appreciate some advice here.

Is the COBRA exhaust the best for noise levels, and on cold air induction kits would folks recommend the K&N set up?

Cobra is loud no doubt.
Janspeed/Che is probably louder still.
Think TTE sounds the best tbh.
You can go custom not always as expensive as you think and they can tailor the noise level to requirements.

Thanks for the response - I don't see your intake in the for sale section.  In fact I don't seem to see any General for sale items only vehicles or swaps?

Cobra for the exhaust and make your own induction kit for behind the battery.

 l viewtopic.php?f=7&t=55077&p=636116&hilit=behind+battery+induction#p636116 (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=55077&p=636116&hilit=behind+battery+induction#p636116) l

Only need a 45 deg piece of tubing, a cone filter of your choice (K&N is common) and the maf housing cut from your current air box.

You wont regret it   s:D :D s:D

I always thought my H&S exhaust wasn't too loud, but the inlaws could always hear me coming from a fair distance away.

Best bet would be to give them a call - they seemed the kind of place that would make it if they can (I believe they started making them initially at the request of a member).

I'll be selling mine shortly too.

H&S make systems to order, so call and ask. You could get Pete at PTR Exhausts a call, again, bespoke made one offs, he'll need your car for a day or two, but you can have exactly what you want.
