Title: Alarm Sounding
Post by: Chilli Girl on December 21, 2016, 21:16
Occasionally when I open or close the garage door (it is an up and over type door) the alarm sometimes goes off.  I park it frontwards in so back of car is nearest the door.  I don't understand why it goes off.  Alarm sensor somewhere?  I tend to end up locking Foxy after I've shut and locked the garage to prevent the alarm sounding!  s:wink:  s:wink:

Need to reduce the sensitivity of the microwave sensor - IIRC it's under the center console at the back.

Or press the lock button three times - disables the interior sensor completely until you unlock.

I found that if I close/open the garage door slowly (to minimise air disturbance of the soft top) then the alarm doesn't go off.

I've never understood the "press 3 times thing", on my PFL it's definitely press 2 times to disable the sensors. I have to do it every time, otherwise the alarm goes off and adjusting the sensitivity doesn't help.

On 3 of the 4 '2s that I've owned (1 PFL and 2 FL - the 4th was an EU import so didn't have TVISS), 1st press locks, 2nd press dead-locks and 3rd disables Microwave. The sensor disable is also accompanied by a long flash of the indicators. I've also looked at alarms for other owners and they ALL behave the same way.

Does yours definitely have a TVISS alarm fitted (sounder inside the spare wheel well unless you've moved it)?

i use to have the same problem with my black 2.  after a drive and put her back in the garage the alarm would go off. never did find out what the problem was.
so i use to talk nicely to it on closing the door very slowly and found out that work most of the time, then if would go off again i would have to give more reassurance that i love it and be back for more driving fun  s:lol:  s:lol:    s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:    s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

3 presses of the fob sets the alarm off on my PFL, 1 press locks doors , 2 presses sets deadlocks - you hear locks fire a second time. This has always been the case.

Sounds like a few cars have the wrong TVSS IV ECU fitted - the ones that don't respond correctly to the 3 presses think that the car doesn't have deadlocks (which should activate on the 2nd press).

For the avoidance of any doubt as to the correct behaviour - the manual supplied with all UK cars describes the key press sequence as per my earlier post.

Cant see how we can change the sequence of operation Steve.

You can't (or if you can it's not referenced in the install manual) - the TVSS that should be fitted to the '2 in the UK wasn't fitted at the factory - it was installed at Filton when the car came off the ferry.

The other thing that could be happening is previous owners fitting 3rd party alarms which interface with the central locking receiver.

Standard Toyota Alarm fitted to mine no other devices that I know about. Alarm is under the spare wheel with no visible mods to the wiring. We get what we get!

I'm pretty sure 2 is disable sensors and 3 is deadlock on mine, but I haven't got round to checking what's there yet.
