Hi folks, my sump has a dirty great dent on it and some quite bad looking rust so this is also on the list of jobs. What sort of gasket do these cars use and are there any potential pitfalls to be aware of or is it a fairly straightforward bolts out, swap, bolt back on job?
No gasket. They are pretty much glued on. Don't just try to pry it off (unless you are putting a new one on), as you will bend the hell out of it.
I use cheapo Stanley knife blades and knock them into the sealant wherever I can fit one in. Then I cut the rest with a Stanley knife, as much as possible. You can't get at the bit by the clutch, but if you break as much of the seal as you can, then it will pry off. I't's a bit tedious, but not 'difficult'.
Get all the old sealant off both surfaces.
Use something like Dirko Elhring sealant when you put it back - a 1/4" bead all round.

Have fun.
Nice one. I've had the sump off an S3 before and that was a very similar affair so shouldn't be to challenging. Think I've still go the sealant from that somewhere but it will no doubt have gone rock hard in the tube by now s:D :D s:D
I can see some Dirko HT sealant on eBay so will grab that.
