Title: Gearbox has just failed - where best to get used box?

Hi all,

Just one week after replacing a rear caliper, subframe, power steering pipes and clutch.... third gear has exploded! After a very ordinary motorway drive, slowed down on the slip road and 3rd (but no other gears) made a noise like a plane taking off. Got steadily worse over the two or so miles back home.

Any suggestions on where is the best place to source a used (6-speed) gearbox, with the best chance of it being a good one?

I'd try Rutland MR2, the breakers, since you're in Leicester.

How much is it to have a gearbox refurbished?
Ask steve @ d1 what he thinks.
You get more peace of mind that way.
